Quick update for part 4 of the run: Game time 1 hour 5 minutes, 8 deaths (Adamant Bait, Goodyear, Graham, Quiff, La, Joesample, Horsecore and Swoop), no stillbirths, 19 hatchlings including the first set of twins: Rustic Pain and Dapper Fear, the sons of Squib and Mi. Only 7 of the 8 deaths can be replaced, so we're down to 54 norns in the world.
I'm going to take a break for the weekend, as we're doing stuff tomorrow and it's my husband's birthday on Sunday; but part 5 will start next week. |

Part 5 - it's not looking good.
There's a lot of sickness, and big scrums in Capillata. Run length 53 minutes, 10 norns dead, 6 births, one of whom died shortly after. There is another set of twins.
NimhsLab is out, sorry. But you have two females for round 2. Several others have no norns in reserve, and a couple are down to their last 3. Everyone has lost at least one norn. There are 10 norns that have never been imported as yet.
Edited to add: a pack of InsantiyPrelude's norns has been uploaded to CC. |

Run Stats, and Feedback Request
Max. no. of eggs laid: Material Slope (Frick), with 8. No-one else comes close.
Max. no. of offspring: currently a tie between Gorm (Kappsune) and Misunderstood (HavenHoney), both on 10, though 2 of Gorm's died shortly after birth.
85 norns born so far (including 2 sets of twins), of whom 7 died shortly after birth.
Player with max. number of norns from mothers: Frick (12) [Min.: NimhsLab with 2]
Player with max. number of norns from fathers: HavenHoney (14), closely followed by Kappsune (13) [Min.: mfb with 0, as two of her three boys have only just gone into the run.]
All players through to round 2, should they wish to participate.
A request for feedback: we're now almost at the same number of norns for gen2 as we started with for gen1! I'm also starting to see shadows of norns when I close my eyes, which is a bit worrying. There are 50 norns in the run now, some of whom are getting quite old, and only another 10 replacements to go in.
I'm considering running this as a "hands-off" run (i.e. "proper" wolfling) for the rest of round 1: run it on fast ticks for 15 minutes at a time, and just go in and register deaths, export births and import replacements. What do people think about this? I appreciate it's moving the goal posts a bit. The alternative is to carry on as up to now, but I'll need to take a few days off to give my brain a rest (I've had this visual thing with other things before, but it's more obvious with computer game sprites, and always freaks me out.) Let me know if you've got any strong feelings either way. |

Might not be a bad idea to run it on fast ticks like that. Save on time and sanity, eh? Whichever works best for you luv!

I wonder if any of the "starving while surrounded by food/toys" deaths were the "eat elevator" issue? |

It could be, there are non-CFEs in the run. I've only seen them say eat elevator a couple of times, and that's when they've been very crowded. Is it a brain overload thing? It'll be interesting to see at the end whether or not the CFEs have done better. |

Part 6 - 32 minutes game time (tried to do fast ticks but they weren't, really) 4 adults died, 10 babies born, one of whom was an extreme fast ager - went from birth to ancient inside a minute. Poor little Cooing Floor.
Will do the write-up and next bit on Monday - I'm off on a course this weekend. |

Ah, so if you work out which drives are actually high, and direct the norn to one of those, they'll snap out of it? When I've observed it, it does seem to be transient, but there aren't really many 'barren' spaces in the world - plenty to look at and interact with.
Edited to add: I'll post another run update today. I'm still processing stuff after a long and crazy rollercoaster weekend (in a good way) and it'll be nice just to have another play with C3DS. Last week seems like months ago. |

Wotcha folks, so sorry this update's been so long in arriving. With a bit of luck I may get to do the next bit of the wolfling later on today.
TL;DR - run length 32 minutes, 50 norns to start, 4 deaths, 10 births.
Part 6 - more babies, and the first fast ager. |

Part 7 update: those norns who were imported first and survived are now dying of old age (the majority aged 5h 39m). This part of the run lasted 1hour of game time. 13 adult deaths (9, possibly 10 of old age), 9 births (3F, 6M, must be autumn!).
Part 7 - All in!
All the original norns have now been imported into the game. One big push on fast ticks might do it... |

I think that was an "ORLY?" moment.
Part 8 - run length 1 hour, 20 norns died (all but one of old age), 14 live hatchlings, 1 pregnancy under way.
This is the first time I've seen norns say "homesick" when pregnant. (Also, for one of them, "push norn home" when she got to the heat pan!) Interestingly, the norns in question were CFE...
24 norns left in the world (16 female, 8 male, which is nice - original ratio!) DarbyDoo, InsanityPrelude, Jessica, Kappsune, magpie-angel and mfb have one each; Frick, Grendel Man and HavenHoney have 2; Feddlefew, Leporidae, Minx and ylukyun all have 3. Frick's ladies have the most births at 13. (Grendel Man and Kappsune are tieing for the most dads, at 17.) |

Part 9 - people, this is insane. It's supposed to be a "use 'em up and wear 'em out" wolfling, not "there will be so many norns that the second generation will never end" wolfling!
Run length: 1h 30, most of the last half hour on fast ticks.
Started with 24 norns; 6 deaths, 16 new births. I kid you not. magpie-angel and Jessica are now out.
Eldest norn is now Sk8punk (5h 21), with a bunch of the youngest around 3h. We could potentially have another 2 hours of game time. :/ |

IT'S DONE!! Part 10, 2h 35m, mostly on fast ticks - and we have a winner for round 1 - Grendel Man! His female norns produced 14 offspring, as did ylukyun's, but Grendel Man's boys fathered 17 to ylukyun's 10. The rest of the peeps (in order, by number of males' offspring in case of a tie): Frick, Minx (13), Kappsune DarbyDoo, Leporidae (12), Jessica (11), mfb (10), HavenHoney, magpie-angel (7), InsanityPrelude (6), Feddlefew (5), NimhsLab (2). InsanityPrelude's boys were the most efficacious, with 18 offspring between them. The last norn standing was Pushy Test, a male expressive Civet belonging to HavenHoney.
Total number of gen 2 norns: 138, of which 130 are living - 66 females and 64 males, always assuming I haven't recorded them wrong (quite possible). This is nearly a 50% increase in the original number of norns, so I'll have to have a think about how to run round 2! Any suggestions gratefully received...! |

So violent! XD Poor little norns!
I'm just doing the stats at the minute, and working out who's related to whom. They're almost all crossbreeds.
Thinking about it, it would be interesting to weed out the offspring with a basic obstacle course to see who's just Too Dim To Breed. There were a number of the first gens who would eat if they were on top of food, but wouldn't go looking for it. Though, to be fair, I think part of that was the stress caused by overcrowding - they'd get in a huge scrum, all say "very crowded" but just stay there! |

Wolfling Run Wrap-up:
Part 10 - finally!
Some ideas there as to how to run Round 2. I'm tempted to weed out the dim ones then let players choose one norn from their "set" to go into round 2, then let anyone else who wants in adopt one of the unclaimed ones. Any thoughts? |

Heh, way to go, boys- nice to see my set made their mark on the next generation. c:
Judging by your bibble, I'd guess you already decided whether to weed out the stupid. That "14 norns" idea sounds good if you don't want another overwhelmingly huge round. |

Yes, I decided to go for it because crowding has such a negative effect on the norns, it makes more sense to run with fewer in the first place.
It's really interesting so far - about half the norns are failing at some point, either because they're dim, or because there's obviously some kind of underlying genetic damage. Incredible Airplane always reached the meso, but that's because she's obsessed with the norn home; poor little Envious Grip has some kind of autism. |

IQ testing done!! Retested all the fails and maybes, to try to get either a yes or no; some norns giving errors the first time were fine in a different world, which suggests it wasn't all in the norns, which is weird. Final tally is 109 passed, 5 removed from the gene pool due to genetic errors, and 14 failed (3 due to some kind of autism). I'll stick up a new post when I've sorted through the norns and then people can choose which they want.
Edited to add: NimhsLab, Feddlefew, InsanityPrelude, magpie-angel and HavenHoney may choose a norn for round 2 if they wish. Rest of them will be done next week... |

Strangely enough, Daffy Road (taken out) was smart enough, but had some kind of weird genetic mutation where she constantly whimpered. You could choose her if you wanted, but I don't know that she doesn't have other mutations, and her whimpering would drive me up the wall.

Have a look at the Round 2 thread and check the 3 links in the first post - they lead to blog posts showing all the available norns for the run. Pick one that nobody's taken yet (100 to choose from!) and post its name in the thread. The more the merrier! |
