He's still alive, was exported about an hour ago (game time) because he'd fathered 4 children: Nutty Tray (with Spiteful Scissors), twins Smooth Quicksand and Sick Lumber (with Psychedelic Surprise) and Political Cracker (with 3rd gen Inconclusive Stranger, herself a child of Cruel Bushes and Joyous Boats).
Unfortunately the twins died on hatching - possibly because of butterfly genetics from mum. But the other two are fine. Nutty Tray takes after his mum, but Political Cracker is displaying his dad's bengal/butterfly genes. |

Quick update: basically, MOAR babies! Another 15, in fact. Hence another 7 norns auto-exported. Also, antigen 5 stalks the corridors, looking for prey - it carried off Ultra Shake and Crooked Baseball. Fallacious Sisters died just over 4h, for no obvious reason; she wasn't sick, and her only high drive was boredom, and that was only about 60%. She found the volcano before the end, so the desert is now rather full of toys, and the gnarlers are doing well!
The metallophagous grendels have been exported as they weren't really doing anything other than eating, and their metal carrots were raging out of control and slowing the game. I might add a different set of grendels in when the IQ tests are done. |

Yeah. That antigen 5 was really nasty - and *fast*. |

OK, I've just had a quick catch-up. All norns have been exported from the world (again!) A few stats: there are 51 norns currently in the run; 3 original 2nd gens (Legal Agreement, Colossal Birds, Rich Example); there are 16 3rd gens, 24 4th gens and 8 5th gens. A further 24 live norns (14 from gen 2) have been auto-exported for reaching the breeding limit.
The poll on how to allocate offspring returned some pretty conclusive results, so I'll start divvying up the babies. This may be a spreadsheet job...
Edited to add: there are now four people out: Feddlefew's norn died without issue. HavenHoney, Leporidae and AlbianPrincess are out because of the girls-follow-mum,boys-follow-dad rule - they all have male norns who only fathered girls. |

Right, the laptop is prepared for the IQ tests of the hatchlings. However. Going back a bit to round one: all the first gens died natural (or unnatural!) deaths. Twenty of the second gens were selected to continue the run. However, this leaves over a hundred 2nd gens, most of whom have passed a basic IQ test, lurking on my hard drive. I can upload packs of norns if people are interested, but I'm thinking - splicing frenzy!!
I'd also realised I'd never posted updated hatchling info. This is a spreadsheet of all offspring in the run, both rounds so far. |

The run is running again... there's a quick update on the IQ testing, and since the spreadsheet was published, there have been another 18 births. Two of these were during the IQ testing (to less-than-bright couples), the rest in the couple of hours of today's run. Legal Agreement, Rich Example, Bewildered Authority, Nutty Tray, Illustrious Van and Exclusive Grip have been auto-exported for breeding.
Colossal Birds is the last 2nd gen still in the run, at over 10 hours old. Slim Throat starved at nearly 7 hours old, and Absorbed Scarecrow died young, at less than 2 hours, for no apparent reason. He fathered Eatable Invention before he went though, and she's already given birth to twins. In one of those twists in which Protective Tub delights, the unfortunately named Hapless Labourer has required CAOS assistance to unstick all 3 of her pregnancies. I do wonder if she will have passed that tendency on... |

Quick update on the wolfling run - TL;DR version, if you want the family tree of your norn(s) doing, let me know. It's getting so confusing I can't work out who's related to whom, but the next blog post will at least show the descendants of your original round 2 norn. |

OK - I thought I'd got a handle on the wolfling babies. At 18 hours into round 2, I exported all the babies and youngsters (20 or so) and IQ tested them; some were a bit slow but all passed. The rest of the norns - all 3rd and 4th gens - were left to wolfling for another couple of hours. At that point, many of the 3rd and 4th gens had either died or been autoexported for successful breeding. I imported all the 5th gens and set it going again. An hour later I exported all the new 6th gens.
After about another hour and a half (now at game time 25h 30) I exported all the norns. There were about five 5th gen females who I put to one side against gender imbalances later (it looked like there would be too many males). The I re-imported all 36 of the 6th gens to different parts of the world - youths and adolescents to Veridia, babies and young children to Random's Room, adults to the biodome. Older children were left in the meso. At 27h 30 game time I exported all the new 7th gens, and there were 25 norns remaining in the world. By 29h 30 this was down to 5 males and 5 females. There are a now a total of 47 7th gens.
The plan: IQ test the 7th gens and try to get a new handle on them; and re-create the world, because the existing one is erroring regularly, even with autokill switched on. It's ok if I'm there to freeze or kill the agent in question, but it's making wolflings increasingly difficult as an error pauses the game until the box is cleared. So I might call an official end to Round 2 - then we can have a tally-up and see how we're doing. |

Finally, the update is done! *falls over* Short version: catches up with all the offspring to about generation 5; Feddlefew, AlbianPrincess, Leporidae, HavenHoney, DarbyDoo, mfb, Minx, Grendel Man, magpie-angel and clohse are out, Laura, KittyTikara, ylukyun, Kappsune, Frick, NimhsLab, Jessica and InsanityPrelude are still in.
Blog update: Drowning in a sea of confusion (except that I'm a bit less confused now - it really was a case of sink or swim). The first of two, as the run itself is up to generation 7/8.
Warning! It's a big post, and heavy on the pictures - you may not want to attempt it on a slow connection. |

Yay, I'm still a player! I think Abnormal Gun is my ultimate favourite, out of Heavenly Order's offspring; she's sporting a cool look with her purple arms and red-spotted ears. |

Quick update - did the IQ testing of the 7th gen babies today. 47 tested, none died, only two failed (and I think they're related, as they looked very similar). A rather surprising 8th gen (didn't much resemble either parent) was born during the test, as I wasn't quick enough off the mark with the CAOS commands! |

Apologies for the lack of updates on this one - real life got in the way, as it has a habit of doing. I should be able to get some done this weekend, and will have a go at streaming some of it if I have time/energy enough to work out the streaming software. |

Quick update - the 2nd generation norns who weren't selected for Round 2 have been IQ tested and the brainier ones passed to Kezune to take part in the Daily Creature Feature.
I've now sorted out the duplicate norns from round 3 (there were so many!) and I'm hopeful I can get something going by the weekend. Fingers crossed! |

Finally, an update with content! xD
I've gone through the 7th and 8th gens, and we're down to 6 players left in the run: Laura, KittyTikara, ylukyun, Kappsune, NimhsLab and Jessica.
There's a blog post up at Nornington Crescent with the results so far. I'll be updating that post with the remaining spreadsheets as I get them done.
ETA: all the spreadsheets are now done! It looks like Jessica may be in the lead, with ylukyun second... |

The run is back up and running! (I'll have to have a look at putting it up on Twitch or something.) I've put the oldest creatures in the world, in an attempt to just get generation 8s. So far, there have been another 22 babies. A couple of the older creatures will need to be exported (stuck pregnancies and the like) but a couple of interesting colour mutations have appeared. |

Experiment IV has begun! This is the random event run for the generation 8 creatures. Be aware that's a picture-heavy post. I appear not to be able to do a short update, which is why I don't put them here! xD
TL;DR version: 2 grendel births, 2 grendel deaths, 9 norn births, 3 deaths, 1 autoexport. 4 male norns up for grabs for anyone who wants to join the run. |

There's a post for Experiment IV, the second hour, now up on the blog. A cautionary tale of what can happen when Grendels Go Bad... |

I find it fascinating watching how your runs develop, and the variety of ways people can use wolfing runs to explore how the Norns and their world work. I've just always seemed to have terrible luck running them myself - the population always dies within a few hours. And that goes for all three of the main games. I must be doing something wrong. |

To be fair, it's a feral run rather than a proper wolfling run - there are extra food sources and toys installed, and (for the current part of the run) there are a couple of roamers wandering around to try to keep sickness under control. The participants have also all been IQ tested, so they should go looking for food rather than just sitting complaining of hunger or pushing buttons until they starve!
I've not really tried ferals or wolflings in C1 - the way sickness can take over makes it difficult - but C3 shouldn't be too much of a problem. It might be useful to start looking at why they're dying or not breeding; whether it's a case of dim norns, sickness, lack of food, or just too much space for the number of creatures. If you've got 12 norns but a whole bunch of metarooms installed, they may never be meeting each other often enough to breed. |

I have no metarooms or cobs, I have just been experimenting with the base games lately and even with a good number of Norns they seem to just stop eating and drop dead within 6 hours. They do breed, but the children will probably be done in another 4. Food's available, they just tend to ignore it. My last run was looking promising as I was using Drozzy Norns in C1 and they breed like rabbits and would occasionally at least glance at some cheese, but amazingly they produced only females and then the older males died, dooming the population. |

Ah - standard norn lifespan (of unchanged generation 1 breeds) is 5 hours 39 - they don't live as long as C1 norns. If you install the Miracle Heal agent, using that may make them live longer, as it injects the life chemical. The Norn Statistics agent will show you at a glance how old they are and their lifestage. Generally though, they won't breed after they reach the 'old' lifestage. (I think they can breed at 'old' but not at 'ancient'.) The other thing to check with DS is that you've got Amai's No Seasonal Gender Bias cos file installed - otherwise you get more females in spring and more males in autumn (or vice versa, can never remember) and that can really screw with wolfling runs. |

The latest post on the feral run - Experiment IV, third hour - is now up on the blog! I've increased the random events to one every 15 minutes. |
