Whow...... ....... ...... How are the norns to survive? Maybe if the breeding rate stayed above the death rate.....But that won't fix the problem.......
(I would certainly like to look at the modified egg layer and the grendels.)

Yes, they were identical.
I think the norn count was at around 9 last update - at this update, there's only six.
Judgment Day: Part 2
This update's full of nornish death. If you get depressed by such content, turn away now.

Cosmo gets Lucy pregnant again, although unlike last time it's only with one egg.

Azhar tries to attack Flojo, but falls asleep before any real damage is done.

Lucy pops out her fourth egg. Not much, but it's progress on the norn's part.

Aggie spent much time harassing the norns, but now she seems to be heading back home. Probably a good thing.

Lucy's fourth egg turns out to be her last. She falls before the furious fists of the grendel Barentain.

Shortly after Lucy's death, Aggie sneaks back and kills Babetta, ending the norn's life way before her time.

Lucy's final egg hatches into Baiko, who is in an extremely perilous place right now.

Azhar attacks baby Bwana. It's clear that the norn is doomed, either as a plaything for Azhar or to be chased into the pond and drowned.

Now Aggie heads back to the Jungle Area - this time for real.

Barentain adds young Beti to his list of norn kills. It doesn't look like any of the babies around will get to live a full life....

Aggie leaves a gift behind for the norns to remember her by....

Flojo becomes the next norn to die, again due to Barentain.

Selene attempts to reverse the loss by mothering another norn by Cosmo (who else?). However, it wasn't without mass effort.

The remaining first gens get together for their final goodbyes...it should be noted that Cosmo is the only male at breeding age alive now.

Eggs...both norn and grendel. The large egg on the end is busy hatching.

But before it does, Cosmo is weakened by Barentain, and then slain by the female Byhalia. The only male that fathered any children is no more.

Britta, Cosmo's last daughter, witnesses Fishskin's final stand as she attempts to follow in the hardmen's footsteps and fight off the grendels....

...only to bite off more than she could chew.

With the deaths of Cosmo and Fishskin, Selene is the only first gen remaining alive...and is being taken on a wild ride by the grendel Burekku.
The fate of the nornish race is clearly set in stone...its final moments shall be documented in the next (and probably final) update.

The final update....
Judgment Day: Last Stand

Selene, the last of the first gens, escapes Burekku's wild teleporting frenzy, although she isn't in the most favorable of positions.

Suddenly, she is attacked....

...and killed by the grendel Clark, an adolescent of 7 minutes. Pity that the first gens get whacked by somebody who shouldn't be killing norns before adulthood.

Fishskin managed to leave behind one final offspring, who is named Bertraude.

Just as was predicted, Bwana is sent to his maker by Azhar's fists.

Azhar figures he shouldn't stop there, and promptly attacks Baiko. He doesn't kill the young norn, though.

Aggie and Azhar share the work in killing Britta, with Azhar dealing the final blow....

...Then Azhar kills Bertraude, bringing her life to an end at a mere 2 minutes. He celebrates by kisspopping (but not impregnating) Aggie.

With Bertraude and Britta dead, only Bessy, Berholda, and Baiko remain alive, all children of Lucy and Cosmo. At the moment, they're all safe by the treehouse elevator.

The threesome fight with the grendel Catherine over an apple as Barentain and Azhar approach....

...To beat them up, not to eat the apple. As the norns scamper off, they attempt to kisspop Catherine.

Bessy dies first from a joint attack by Azhar and Barentain. Azhar deals the final blow, as evidenced by Bessy's final words of dislike towards the grendel.

The elevator malfunctions, as Berholda, Baiko, and Azhar soon find out.

Driven by fear, Berholda runs into the pond. Baiko soon joins her, motivated mostly by loneliness. They decide that if they die, they die together, and that they die not by the fists of an enraged grendel, but by drowning.

Berholda lives up to that promise, falling not to Barentain as the picture suggests, but to the waters of the pond. Frustrated, the grendel runs off....

...leaving Baiko to hold up his side of the bargain uninterrupted.
With all the norns now dead, the grendels now have this ark completely to themselves - a bitter loss for Nornkind, but a great victory for the mighty Banshee.

In the belly of the beast, only the plants of the pond bear witness to the final passings of the norns....
The Wolfling Run is now over. Sorry about the tragic ending.
Anyway, how did you all like this run overall? Any suggestions on how to do better next time?
Also, besides silvak, would anyone be interested in the modified grendel egg layer used in the run? If enough people are interested, I'll release it publicly along with the Jungle Banshee Grendels.

Overall, I really liked it! Sad ending....but that happens sometimes.
I suggest either having fewer Grendels or editing them so they mature slower. They had kids before the Norns were adolesent. The number of Norns was good. Certainly not any more or it would be too crowded. That's all I can think of.

That was a great wolfing run, but the end was very sad. But then again Cosmo did quite well, just a pity none of his kids survived. |

Aww poor Bwana and Bertraude.
It is a sad ending, but it's an interesting change of pace. I was surprised at how well Cosmo did for himself! Although I agree that slower-maturing Grendels would have balanced things out a lot--they really had quite a head start, which is actually unusual compared to how things run in my worlds. Are these "enhanced" (non-mating-fatigue) Grendels?

The grendels are technically Banshee Grendels, but with several things lifted from the standard Jungle Grendel in their genome (for example, they have instincts to hit gadgets and machinery instead of playing with toys and buttons when bored), which is why they aged and bred so quickly.
I'd say it's probably a given slower grendels will be used when/if I decide to do this again.

My suggestion would be to have norns and grendels evenly matched, in terms of defending oneself, attacking, resistance to starvation and illness, and breeding. Have an equal number of norns and grendels. Then maybe have team norn and team grendel, with "sponsors" for grendels as well as norns. Both teams will start at opposite ends of a large room e.g. the engineering so as to be given fairly neutral starting environments. Since random occurrence would be the only real determiner of outcome, you could start with non-firstgens who have some mutations. Possibly a little complicated, but it would be very interesting and heated. |

It was a very interesting Wolfing Run, it may even help people to understand the defense mechanism of Creatures.
Just like others say, the Grendels where breeding too fast and it was like they where trained. But that's a Banshee trait.

Somehow I don't think making the Norn:Grendel ratio even would give the Norns a fair chance. Unless they're unable to interact with one another, it only takes one Grendel to wipe out an entire population of Norns. I do like the idea of sponsors, though. It would be interesting to see people rooting for the Grendels too.

While the "sponsors" idea is interesting, equal amounts of norns and grendels is not a good idea. Like Ghosthande said, a single grendel can kill a good 10-20 norns if given the opportunity. In addition, in my runs the grendels will typically have their egg layer functional and spitting out eggs should their population get low, while the norns don't have this luxury.
What I'm thinking next time is to have grendels who hunt norns out of hunger rather than anger - the grendels "eat" norns by hitting them. In that manner, it'd be closer to why real-life predators hunt, and they wouldn't be as dead-set on eradicating the norn populace.
