Pardon? I would not classify myself as "pointing fingers" or having an "outburst". The latter, yes, may be construed from my giant wall of text; but I am just opinionated and verbose more often than not.

When I chose to name Lacota -- not jab my finger shaking furiously in his direction -- it was to make an example using a recent name. I could have gone with AquaShee, Bug, Helen or Slink, which are names I remember from my first forray into the creatures community. These are what I consider "trusted" people in the fandom.

Now yes, you are quite right. Fair use is not an all-encompassing blankie to hide under. I am not using it to "do whatever I want," nor am I using it to "steal." I am not stealing at all. Stealing would be taking someone's mod and trying to sell it, or failing that, claiming that I created the content myself. I am not doing either of these things. I have not ever even contemplated doing these things.

That said, I am feeling this discussion is rather moot at this point. Agree to disagree, and all that.

And furthermore, I've been toying with making my own mod for Creatures. As I may have mentioned, I can at least draw decently. So perhaps a toy, vendor or food. I am really worked up about drawing a critter (I love animals XD) so I want to do that, but an agent from the afforementioned list is probably much easier to start out with, and would let me know if I have the patience it would take to make a creature walking/flying/whatnot animated sprite. Still wanna do one, though. I keep thinking of a little dragonfly-cat-thing that flies in small swarms, eats fruit, has a full lifespan/breeds. Ideally I want to make one that Rainbows like the sharks do, because I LOVE breeding sharks for colours (when I can, it's hard o_o). But I don't know if those sharks have like 9238902 sprites, or just some weird colour changing code that the game does. Do you have any idea?

They have one or two sprites and a Hue shift. It's been a dogs age since I've done any CAOS, but there is a command to change the tint of a sprite.

Breeds do this in a similar manner.

Example, Dodgey norns are by sprites greyscale but can be bred all sorts of fancy colours. In that case through editing of the pigment and pigment swap genes.

Heaven only knows where they are, but an example of the old snowball agent clucky and I (aka SantaPaws) came out with on the oooold DS boards did exactly this.

One sprite of a snowball, but each was a random colour.

By the by, if you happen to have them, could you please send them along? my address is available in my profile.

Cheers

I love you guys. *tear*

You can think it's silly for a creator to be protective about their work all you like, but it doesn't change the creator's rights.

It also doesn't change that some people don't care.

Alas, poor Ashkitty, your biggest mistake was revealing that you cared for the opinions of others :P

Say whatever you like but as far as I can tell the main reason several members here have a bad impression of you is because you only seemed interested in asking for permission after it became an issue.

If you want to be publicly admired then you should spend the next several months trying to e-mail everybody on your 500+ list to get their okay first. If you don't care what people think about you and you want to get your torrent up and running right now then forget about the e-mails.

You'll never be able to get the best of both worlds so you should just pick one and stick with it.

At this stage I think we all would also like to confirm that you have gained permission to include work by either developer before adding them to your collection. i.e. Just to say that any items which are not added with permission or where the readme file does not permit redistribution would need to be removed to avoid conflict.

Creatures addons are not freeware by nature and without permission you can end up in the middle of copyright infringements and bad feelings.

For example, my website is not going anywhere and as such, and as stated at my site and within my readme files, none of my works are available for distributio/hosting 'unless' I have explicitly stated otherwise, and this is the case for a good many developers also.

I should also mention that within the last few weeks Gameware has repeated that no-one has permission to 'host' the Mall breeds in any way, so therefore I can presume they will continue (as they have done in the past) to take legal action against anyone infringing on their copyright.

Cheers.

Don't worry, dear fans whom I have so effectively alienated (sigh). Your veiled threats have had their effect on me; I'm done talking about this here, simply.

Ps: Don, btw, I love the "Gameware will get you, nasty pirate! They've done it before!" If only because it was so tiredly unneeded -- I have clarified my lack of official breed inclusion several times by this point. Nor am I unaware of your little correspondence.

Anyway. I am not done. Just on hiatus, which you fans will be familiar with as "who knows," but I would insist on adding, "likely to continue."

Lots of things are going on. TPB has been savaged, shut down, bought. Winds of change and all that jazz.

Are you the type of good, honest people who will be interested in an entirely legal "New TPB?" Hmm. Only time will tell.

I think you'll find no-one had any negative feelings towards you at all, and there are no veiled threats.

We give everyone who might not have heard it before the exact same cautionary response -- make sure you follow copyright and do not get into trouble with Gameware -- each and every single time the topic of hosting addons has ever come up within the history of the Creatures Community.

Usually, with the exception of the odd newbie, the person will reply to confirm they understand the concerns and all is good in the world, and then the topic moves on. We've been here far faaar too many years to bother with drama any more.

hehe, "nasty pirate" ay ;) I'm not sure about that, but we do need to warn people about what has happened in the past. Better to be safe than sorry, and no-one wants to have unpleasant correspondence with a company.

TPB itself is a bit off topic, but I don't really have any feelings about it one way or the other. There will always be similar sites at any rate.
