author | Chaos Games | website | [view] | Ostrova is an icy terrarium dumped in space years ago by the Shee, when things went wrong with the temperature valves. It comes with lots of agents, an all new Grendel breed call the Yerens, and it has many mysteries waiting to be unlocked. |

I so wanted the Yeren grendels and you need to pay for them.

I agree with your review. I bought it mostly because I wanted to have all the available paid breed packs and rooms. I don't think I've played it more than two or three times since purchasing.

Might as well link to my review here.
To sum that up: it's not a bad metaroom, but it's dated/very lazily done, and your money is better spent elsewhere unless you absolutely must have every non-free addon.

Not injecting the aquatic life right away could have been a resources-saving measure, I guess? For people that weren't planning to put aquatic norns in the room.

This isn't the worst metaroom out there, but it's an old room and it shows. The elevators don't have CA links, so Creatures can't navigate the room very well. The snow looks horrible and can't grow anything. The rest of the graphics are really dated.
On the plus side, it's a decent size and the graphics grow on you, if you can get used to them. It's probably not worth the money I spent on it though.

I brought it long ago and loved it at the time, but it hasn't aged that gracefully. I don't think this will hold a candle to Chione once the latter is finished, yeren grendels are a nice concept and the adults are pretty(though their tails are a bit awkward), but the young ones' sprites have black pixels.
my verdict: no, not at this price.

The room looks quite nice, but the price is a bit too expensive, specially considering that it hasn't lowered since the room was first made available for sale.
There are some improvements which could have been made to it, such as:
1. Using C3/DS default graphics for the lemons, cheese and carrots produced by the "mystic stocking". To me, the default graphics are clearly superior (specially to the carrot ones), so there's little reason not to use them. The same goes for the apples produced by the potted plant.
2. An egg layer for the Yeren Grendel in Ostrova would really have been nice.
3. In docked worlds, it would have been nice to have a door to Ostrova from the bridge. There are some empty spots near the existing room corridor doors which would be great for this purpose, such as to the left of the norn terrarium.
4. I don't see any reason why the metaroom's aquatic life doesn't begin already injected, instead the player having to press some pipes for them to appear.
5. The snowy ground at the top of the metaroom lacks any shading whatsoever.
However, the graphics of the metaroom in general are certainly quite good-looking, the Yeren Grendel breed is one of the best-looking grendels out there, and there is sufficient variety in the metaroom of plant life. Furthermore, a snow environment is THE terrarium environment which most sorely lacked from C3... and Ostrova fills that gap nicely.
Overall, I think the metaroom is of good quality, certainly above average, and worth the purchase for avid C3-DS fans.
