Nutter: what's supposed to happen is that there is a team of co-coordinators with equal responsibilities; no sole person would be "in charge" as a ringleader, or be expected to to shoulder more work than their team mates. Even before the CCSF got as active as it has been for the past few years, it was already common practice to have at least two coordinators, not just one. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out that way the last couple of years.

I totally agree! I think that the torch should totally be passed to a new person, and with that, if there are expectations and ways that the CCSF coordinator should/shouldn't do, there should be a little written guide to help alleviate some of the burden.

CCSF is so big, I'm surprised there's a single co-ordinator. Is this a case of single person responsible, or bunch of people responsible being herded in the right direction by the co-ordinator? (The impression I get is the former; many people make submissions but only one person pulls it all together.)
Perhaps there's an argument to be made for a CCSF editorial team? That way, the co-ordinator isn't swamped because they're the ringleader of a ring of people all doing supporting jobs (in addition to other bods doing the actual submissions). Benefits two-fold: people more likely to volunteer because they know they'll get support, and new bods get a chance to be a member of the team and "train up" to do the full co-ordinator's job.

I can see the benefit in this; even presidents can't be re-elected indefinitely.
Besides, it's not like previous coordinators drop off the face of the earth after the CCSF is over; "not coordinating" isn't the same as "not present", and you don't have to coordinate to offer advice and suggestions to people.

I'm all for new faces stepping up and giving it a go. That way we can get new ideas and as Laura said, it would give us a fresher take on things. It might also be a good idea to keep one past co-coordinator in contact with the new ones in case they have any difficulties or need advice. Of course that person could be one person from the previous year each time. They'd have minimal input but be able to offer advice and support when needed.

Part of the trouble is that the Creatures Community Spirit Festival organising can become bigger than Ben Hur, and it can take a lot of skills to give the 'CCSF experience' that we've come to expect. The weight of expectation might be discouraging to new people stepping up.

Inviting different approaches to coordinating the CCSF could be a good thing. It would keep things fresh, and to be fair: New coordinators won't get the chance to learn about the responsibility and commitment involved, if they don't step up to begin with? I think more planning and discussion with the community as a whole would easily help with that anyway.

This is kind of where I'm going with the current poll. I think we're going to end up with people coming forward to volunteer. My current activity with the CCSF polls is the carryover from last year. I do agree that new people should be brought aboard, but I'm not sure if everyone is fully aware of the commitment and responsibility required. Veteran coordinators have this experience to work off of, while new coordinators might have different ideas about the position. The next step, once the current poll is over, is to figure out the coordinators for this year and pass off the responsibility for completing polling and planning to them.

I don't think previous coordinators should be barred from joining in coordination for the next year, but at the same time I think others should be given the first shot.
That being said, I've no intentions of coordinating again this year!
