Just curious how many people around here made choices about their career path based on the games. I've played Creatures since I was probably about 8 or so. I always was fascinated by science, both real and the science fiction type. Specifically I really enjoy genetics, but with the ongoing public health crisis I have not looked into any further schooling (have been considering going into genetics). I ended up majoring in biology and Scandinavian studies. I almost went for the triple major with chemistry but they were drastically short on spaces for all the chem classes past the first/introductory biochem class. [nsad]
I did work for the chemistry department while I was there though, that was fun.

I really like working in a lab. My current job is a little less... lab-y than I would like. Though I'm not sure what I should be looking for elsewhere to find one more to my liking.

Art is another interest of mine, but I was actively discouraged from pursuing much of that as far as schooling goes. Agent coding was always a neat concept to me too, but I never committed to learning anything more than the useful command codes. [ntongue]

Did anyone else make their choice of field or plan to, based on your fondness for the series? If you did not end up pursuing anything related to your time playing the series but would have liked to, what do you think you would want to study?

I think I would have chosen half of my degree choice even if I didn't play Creatures. I only discovered the series in my late teens.

However the AI aspect of Creatures, did encourage me to add more technology to my degree. By add, I mean I decided to pursue a double degree for some forsaken reason. Well I think its called a double degree.

That is interesting, I likely would have chosen mine regardless as well. If it was not because of Creatures, it was Star Trek, Stargate, Star Wars... lots of stars. I wanted to know more about how the world works, what the possibilities are, and so on. I considered some kind of astronomy but alas, I am not one for physics and the like. I suppose I grew up with the series though, too. My dad always had computer parts lying around and made me my own desktop when I was 8 or so. No internet, and it did not run very well, but it ran the Creatures series just fine. I spent a lot of my time playing C2 and C3/DS. I played some C1 but I mostly liked looking at the art of it. I found the gameplay a little too complicated and not very straightforward. The pick-ups in the later games helped make it feel a little more interactive.

Yeah I think double degree is probably right, we had "double majors" at my college since we did not necessarily get two separate degrees. I knew a few people that did triple majors. If I could have done the scheduling right I would have done that too and added chemistry, but I had to have a surgery done that made me a little behind schedule.

I think its neat to double/triple up if you can afford to-- time/patience/money wise! Depending on what you study, it might not be too much extra work if they're similar enough.
