Stupid question (C3DS Norn breeds)

Time for another round of me asking stupid questions. I've been considering adding some breeds to my C3 game to add some variety and, fearful of something going wrong, I thought some of the official breeds might be a good place to start.

However, do any of the available additional Norn breeds work in a standalone C3 game? Or do I need Docking Station? I only ask because most things are labelled 'C3DS', and it's throwing me off a little.

I apologise again for the stupid question. I'm still new to this whole 'modding' thing, and am terrified of getting it wrong and messing up my game (so far, I've been able to add the 'update 2' and biopellets with no issues, but I'm still nervous of adding more).

The official breeds work with C3 alone just fine. If you have both games installed, I would in fact rather put them in the C3 folder. DS can see C3's files, but not the other way round.

For third party breeds and agents, the situation is a little more tricky. Generally speaking "C3DS" means it works with either, while "DS" only works with that. There are virtually no objects that work exclusively with C3.
This is more of a rule of thumb rather than set in stone, so take this with a grain of salt.
Typically, anything that comes as a .agent or .agents file is safe to use either way. Even when it is not compatible with your game, it will either not show up in the injector at all or throw an easy to deal with error.

The only thing you really should be careful with are cosfile changes. A famous example would be all those "eggs hatch underwater" patches. You should really make sure to get one suitable for your game, as you are overwriting existing game files here.

Why don't you use DS, if you don't mind me asking? Even without the online stuff it brings some nice conveniences to the game.

Thanks for the help and advice. I really appreciate it.

As for why I don't (currently) use DS, the last time I installed it (which was also the first time I'd ever installed it), it seemed to cause the internet connection on my laptop to slow down insanely, even with the offline patch in use. I made a whole bibble about it a while back (in short: DS installed, connection slows down, DS is removed, connection is fixed, connection then occasionally slows down again, attempts at fixing are tried, currently connection is fine and I'm keeping track of what's going on).

I'd love to use DS with my C3 game, but that whole episode has, for lack of a better term, knocked me a little (unsure if the game really was to blame, somehow, or if I did something wrong). Hence my worries about adding anything else to the game.
