A little bit of backstory here...
I have the Albian Years version from GOG. I had it working perfectly. I use all of the cobs from Discover Albia for c1 and a few extra ones from elsewhere. All of this was working just fine...and than I stopped playing c1 for a couple of months.
When I went back to the game today, I decided that I wanted to start a new world, so I did. Apparently I borked something because, after copying and moving the files around from my backup, the carrot update from Discover Albia quit working and was crashing the injector kit.
I might have overreacted to this problem because I wiped everything and decided to do a total reinstall.
I have reinstalled about 5 times now and I can't get it back to working order. I don't remember what c1 things/updates from Treesprites Grove I need to install... I keep getting errors saying that I need the Wing32.dll (have it) and various other things.
So... can someone please remind me, step by step, exactly what to do to get this game working properly because I cannot seem to remember to save my life. All I really want is for the game to work again and for the Discover Albia updated foods and stuff to not crash the injector.
Thank you in advance. Any help would be seriously appreciated.
Updated to add: I have been using the remastered patch.
Updated again to add: I have windows 7 x64. |

Which version of Creatures 1 is it? As far as I know the Albian Years version doesn't need any patches. |

I went through this entire headache a month or two ago, so I know exactly how you feel right now. And I tried a million things in a billion combinations and eventually something worked, but... god knows what it was.
I'll see if I wrote anything down, or remember what finally worked... something to do with...
OK, try this:
1. Uninstall. Fully and properly. Delete any leftover files/folders. Maybe dig into your registry and get rid of any mentions of it there, although that's a bit risky, but it's what I did. I think I messed something up with the world switcher. On second thoughts, don't mess with the registry.
2. Install C1 Albian Years, but NOT INSIDE THE PROGRAM FILES FOLDERS. Not either of them. It has to be installed somewhere simple, without any symbols and preferably a short path. Maybe "\Albian Years\Creatures 1", that should be fine.
3. Install Remastered Patch. Do not install other patches because the game should be fully patched already. You can inject "patch cobs" just fine though, those are different.
4. The second most important thing: download the Injector Kit installer from Gameware's old website. No other versions will work. It has to be this one. I don't know why.
5. Delete the original Injector.exe. Now paste the installer into your C1 folder. Rename it to something other than "injector.exe" because Gameware are a silly lot and it'll try to overwrite itself if you run it now. After renaming it, run it. It should plop a fresh new injector.exe into the folder.
Now run the game. It should work, unless it doesn't. But I think that's how I eventually fixed mine. Good luck! |
