In addition to Posting News, and Posting Adoptions, some people might be interested in Posting Breeds, Posting Metarooms, or Posting COBs and Agents.
You no longer need explicit permission to simply list an agent, cob or breed on Creatures Caves, but it is considered courteous to not directly link to the download when you use the 'link' function instead of the upload function.
Items and breeds that could be listed in the database:
*Most of SteerPike's C1 COBs (A search for "SteerPike" to double-check for duplicates)
*All of SteerPike's C2 COBs
*Most of Helen's COBs and Agents (Search for "Helen")
*Breeds and Agents from The Wyvern's Lodge
*Agents from the Grendel Overground (note that these have permission to be uploaded to other sites.)
*C2 COBs by Irka of Iggsdrasil
*Some of TwilightCat's agents (Search for "TwilightCat")
*Most of Freya's COBs and agents (Search for "Freya")
*Hausmouse's Agents (Search for "Hausmouse")
*Spirit's COBs and Agents (Search for "Spirit")
*Muppetboy's COBs (Search for "Muppetboy")
I hope this helps people who wish to enter items in the database find items they're interested in entering! Please let us know if you find this useful, or find another cache of items that you feel would be useful in the CC.com database!

Sorry if it's a dim question, but is linking to a downloads page preferable to uploading the cob? I did both for Freya's oven, but uploading the cob is going to have more implications for bandwidth/storage for CC.com. Is it likely to be an issue? |

I don't know if bandwidth/storage is an issue, but I do know that if the COB/Agent isn't yours, I'd assume it best to post a link to the person's download on their preferred site. If the COB is no longer available online, I'd assume it safe that you can post a direct link to your uploaded COB.

Cool... I generally got the ok from people whose cobs I posted on my own site (if they were still contactable); the only people I remember who actually said outright No were Cyberlife, who I guess are now non-existent anyway. |

I would say -ask- first. Someone hotlinked to one of my hosted downloads without asking. I'd have been alright if they'd just asked first.

Bandwidth/storage are non-issues. Please upload all files which you have permission from the author to upload. Otherwise, just provide the link to the author's webpage where the file download link is available.

Agreed: Asking first is always best! The only time I would upload directly to Creatures Caves is if the file was readily available in the past, the author was OK with sharing, and the site/author was no longer around.
That's one other important point from Kezune: Whenever possible, it's usually best to link to a page, rather than the direct download. There are some instances where this isn't possible, but I think direct downloads from off-site should be used sparingly, Just a thought to back up Kezune!

Thanks for the clarifications. Personally I find it more convenient to click and get a download, rather than being referred to another site to find the file there (though it's certainly good to have the link to the originating site if it's still up).
There are a large number of the cobs I have that state they're free to redistribute so long as full attribution is given, so there shouldn't be a problem with those. Just as well, because most of the contact details are at least 10 years out of date. |

Those ones (free to distribute with attribution) are fine to upload here.

Having trouble uploading a few things, it keeps telling me to upload a .zipfile, and then wiping some of the data like images, zips, and descriptions. I might have submitted an empty sheet a few times. How do you know if it worked? |

That is odd. Have you tried unpacking the zip file and repacking it, in case the zip file is corrupted? When you submit a file, I think you should get a message in a little red bar confirming that it has been put in the queue, but if you private message anyone with the title "Manager" or "Administrator" under their stars, they can view the queue and tell you if it's been submitted correctly.

I know this a really old forum post, but the link to posting breeds appears to be broken. Or at the very least the page it's referencing is now missing. |
