Ooh, this burns me up! ![[angry]](/images/smilies/angry.gif "[angry]") I was gagged from JRChat by Shanon (whoever she is). The little thing that says that I've been gagged from the Chatroom said that I used the innapropriate words "shut up," but I didn't! No such words came out of my mouth! I have a few questions to ask you all: How long does a JRChat gag last? Is there a log they keep of this so I can make my case to Shanon? Hawksight  |

Actually, while cc.com contains a page allowing you to connect to JRC, it isn't actually part of it (different Ops, different servers, different rules, etc). As for the "shut up", that wasn't the server speaking. The only server message you'll get is when the server itself kicks you. A kick from an op, a gag, etc only displays what the Op tells it to. Time limits on gags range from 1ms (millisecond) through to a week, depending. However, quitting and attempting to rejoin while gagged may increase the gag length. Being gagged also places you on the "waitlist" - when you try to join the server asks all ops if it should let you in or not. Whichever Ops votes first decides. Back again! Beware! |

Wolf and Shaon were the ones rudely changing our names. You should've seen what they've done over there to me, EvilSpirit, and Spook (oops... InfinityMoose)! ...I'm not blaming you for their atrocious behavior, Data. I'm just upset that they've used their power like that. Let's count how many names I'VE had: -Hawkisight -Hawkblind -Hawkblindleftface -Titmouse -Tattle-tale -Cyberdork -Steve -SteveTheGuy (they know I'm female!) -Oozing Toast ...and about ten more which I chose not to remember. Anywho, JRChat is starting to just be a jumble of a few random people from who-knows-where breaking almost all of the rules! (People shouted a lot, posted lines and lines of text that had no real meaning, asked personal questions like "How old are you?" and "When's your birthday?", and they used some bad language.) I know I'm probably just overreacting.I'm just not enjoying JRChat; people seem to break the rules a lot  . Yeah, I've noticed shouting, a bit of scrolling, bad language and stat questions, too. I've never gotten my name changed, though. Shaon (sorry) is picky about what I say and then she goes and cussed and shouts herself! Someone do something, please! For the sake of the Community! |

Without active sysops, there's nothing anyone can do as far as technical measures go. Data is the only one around, and he's frequently busy or otherwise occupied. And no new sysops can be added without LummoxJR doing it himself, which is unlikely to ever happen. With no control you get madness. Holdon a sec, people. Yes, it looks like Wolf & Shaon went a bit silly with the tempsys abilities & I'll have to have a chat to them about that. I'll also be a bit picky about who gets it if I keep getting complaints. As EM points out, I can't be in there 24/7 - so I try to find people who can be trusted to keep an eye on things. The reason for that's simple - a certain troll still hasn't gotten the hint and keeps insisting that he can use JRC to be a foul mouthed little toad and abuse any female who enters. While I could ban him, the server will only allow a 1 week ban from a sys-op of my level or a 3 week waitlisting. But a waitlist is pointless without an op. If I try banning just his IP, he tumbles and gets a new IP in that range, while banning that ISP outright could potentially ban normal people. A waitlist is a good compromise (AOL users are waitlisted for a similar reason). With this in mind, I feel it's better to have an Op of some sort at least most of the time in case foulmouth comes back (not naming names, but many of you know his Harry Potter psyeudonym). As for why Shaon & Wolf were opped, I was hoping I could trust them to "play nice". It isn't so easy to pick Ops Back again! Beware! |

well technically it's against the rules of jrc. it works well to protect younger kids, who wouldn't know not to tell everyone their address, phone number, social security number, etc (silly, it sounds, but it's true). i think generally people (myself) just sort of have a sense of who cares and who doesn't, and the rules have relaxed a lot. which isn't a terrible thing imho. To Anduin: Being asked your age in JRC can be a bad thing. Like christine stated, the reason why that's technically breaking the rules is that if you are young (in the eyes of those viewing), you might end up with stalkers, which may lead up to bad things like spam mail. To Data: We aren't blaming you for their behavior and we aren't mad at you. We just would like someone with power (and time) to make sure that the people in the Creatures Chatroom don't break the rules, be respectful to the others, etc. ...The chatroom has basically fallen into a state of insanity, randomness, and, all in all, chaos. If LummoxJR isn't around to apoint new sysops, then I don't know what'll happen. Hawksight |

Okay, I'm trying to find people I can trust with sys power - it's not always easy, but I have a few I believe I can trust now. And no, Lum popped on for maybe half an hour at the start of the year - his first appearance in ages! And he was gone before I could ask about new sysops. Technically asking age is against the rules, but it seems to have become more relaxed over the years - to becoming something you find out in the process of getting to know friends. But you do NOT just barge in with "ASL!!?!?11!?!" - it isn't AOLChat thanks! Oh, and if anyone barges in screaming AOLspeak or leetspeak, don't take offence if I boot you the instant I see it. it's true. i'm glad there's a new effort to sort things out- if we can convince people to come back then maybe we can have a jrc renaissance. i'd love to see some people come back. and yes, there are temp sysops (!) and people with power who are somewhat trustworthy, despite recent events. so pop in sometime, just check it out maybe? cough, people who never come in, cough. There are few outsiders in JRC, Hawksight, anyone likely to be a "stalker" is going to have far more inquiries about themselves than someone who's taken the time to be visible somewhere else in the CC (CC.com, A2K, and GW are the most common). As I'm sure you know quite well by now with your name fiasco, we're a pretty suspicious lot. The temp-sys is removed when the person with it leaves the room; Shaon and Wolf already know they probably won't be getting it again all that soon. |
