The pages in the Community section have been repaired. You can now post links, polls and resource articles, and also edit resource articles.
Please let me know if you still encounter any issues. I'm hoping to make more progress around the rest of the site this month.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi, I Have the rather undefined feeling that the slow Parts of the Site might, come from slow database queries, either the Indexes are broken, or the Queries themselves are querying unnecessary large Datasets from the Database and filtering is done in PHP, or whatever ^^.
Just a Gut-Feeling, as I cannot think of anything computational in PHP That could cause those Slow responses.
What is your take on letting other People take a peek into the Source Code?
Greetings

Thanks ham5ter!
I have a feeling the PHP/MySQL coding may be part of the issue. The only thing I don't understand is why the site worked fine in 2019 and then in 2020 it's really slow when nothing really changed coding-wise.
It makes me think the host is to blame.

There are many things that could be at fault, A change, hopefully, introduced in that time span might be Updates to newer dependency versions, or you possibly extracted the Database once, and restored it from a Dump, with the dump missing Index Information, maybe the Database is running on Slow Disks, and the Cache is not configured Properly... the list goes on . To know for sure I would have to take a look though.
Are you running on some kind of Webspace? or is this a VPS?
What PHP Version are we on?
What kind of Database are you running in the Backend? (MySQL / MariaDB probably?)
What Version is the Database in?

The website is hosted on a shared Linux server through 1&1 IONOS.
- PHP version is 7.2.
- Database is MySQL 5.5 (135 of 1024 MB used)
Will do -- thank you for the offer.

I adopted a first gen creatchi egg. The adoption itself worked, but the page displayed an error at the top:
Warning: Use of undefined constant Coinchi - assumed 'Coinchi' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /homepages/8/d152644540/htdocs/creatchi.php on line 171
Subsequent visits of the creatchi.php don't seem to show that error.

Now there is this odd var: 0 text in front of all socializing links and var: 1 in front of all the instances where it says "pending".

Many thanks to ylukyun for directing me to the right thread to report in.
I believe I have found a bug in the creatchi breeding. Pretty much word for word, last night I tried sending a breeding request to nugg's Magician's Red and it threw back at me: "Request failed. You have already submitted a pending request to this user. 1"
But there is no breed request message sitting in my inbox, and I doubt that there is one sitting in nugg's inbox either. I'm not even sure if I did send a request prior to last night because, well, no little message from the creatchi system sitting in my inbox.
From the depths of Deep Lurkspace I emerge... And suddenly can't remember what it is I came up for. |

I now remember that I had this problem myself. It happened with the first Creatchi I adopted after the site reopened in July 2019. I haven't had the problem with any other Creatchis since then. |

For reference, anything saying "undefined constant" is just a warning for now and indicates debug mode being turned on. They don't affect site functionality at all, as far as I'm aware, but should be addressed before the next PHP upgrade. |

The website still takes a very long time to load, even on a fast internet connection. |

The script allocation list also has PHP errors. +1 for website being dog slow even on fast connections. |

Not sure if it's interesting or does at all help, but from what I can tell the slow thing is the database. Static(ish) pages like dev or donate need about 1-1.5s to load, where the general forum page with db calls takes 4-6s and the size transfered isn't that different. I didn't have any issues with direct downloads for the backup, too. |

Posted a new forum topic (from Android mobile in case it matters) and the page you get after hitting Post displayed this one:

I had a similar experience to @Papriko when posting a new topic using a current Firefox from a desktop:
Warning: Use of undefined constant Y - assumed 'Y' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /homepages/8/d152644540/htdocs/forum.php on line 708
