I used to have some problems myself but it works on my current computer.
I have an unhealthy love for troubleshooting and fixing problems, so I was just wondering what technical problems you all are having.
Thanks!

None here; C2 has always worked for me natively on Win7.
A lot of people get black screen/rendering issues, though. I think mostly they're on Win10. |

Most of the issues with C2 seems to be linked to Win10. Black box of death is one of them, I've managed to get C2 to run on Win10 but with some issues.
For me the hand constantly clips, vanishes, comes back and is generally being an oddball. The game feels more sluggish and slower than when I had Win7 installed, like everything is delayed. The performance simply isn't what it used to.
It isn't unusual that a norn lays an egg that will crash the game once it hatches, however I had this isssue with Win7 aswell.
However the main reason I avoid playing C2 is because for me it always crashes eventually and leaves my world broken and I fail to save my norns. Otherwise I do have a fondness for the C2 game, and it's probably my favourite...If it would work like it should.

I did a post a while back about how to solve the Windows 10 lag when running Creatures 2. Apparently any resolutions above 1366 x 768 will cause the severe performance drop to appear, which seems is to do with the crappy way Windows 10 emulates DirectDraw. I think I emailed GOG.com about it but I doubt they'd be able to fix the issue as it is OS-based.
The best thing you can do, if you want the most faithful Creatures 2 experience, is to download VMWare Workstation and run C2 using that along with a copy of Windows XP. |

I was able to get the GOG version of C2 to run successfully (and quite well) on Win10, but ended up running into issues in the gameplay itself, namely Norns inexplicably getting paralyzed or being unable to satisfy their drives properly.
I ended up quitting as I got quite frustrated, but maybe I'll have to try again with a clean install later. :s

If you're having issues with the norns themselves it might be worthwhile for you to check out the Canny norns, as they have multiple fixes that make them much more suited to survival.
What do you mean by paralysis, exactly? I sometimes get norns freezing in one position and they simply refuse to move even if I push them. I never encountered the issue in my original 1998 copy of C2 so I assume it's either a GOG or Win10 bug. |

I tried with different genetics, but that particular issue still happened, unfortunately.
Yes, that's what I mean! They would stand in a particular position and suddenly stop moving. I could see in the window that lets you watch what they're thinking that they were trying to do things, but were physically unable to. No amount of pushing, picking up/dropping, etc could un-paralyze them. After restarting two or three times and continually running into the issue, I gave up.
Very interesting that something like that could arise with GOG/Win10 specifically! What a curious issue.

The only solution I've found to the issue with freezing is to reimport the norn that is afflicted. Unfortunately it kind of makes Wolfling Runs somewhat difficult. |

I didn't even realize you could do that! Goes to show how much I know about C2, although that'll definitely come in handy in the future if/when I give C2 another shot.

Creatures 2 is my FAVORITE of the series. I use Win 10 and have tried all the solutions mentioned here, which work for a while but in general my issues stem from the use of third party COBs and norn species. I'm not sure there's a fix for that sort of thing, sadly. Some of them are just incompatible with each other, the game, and Win 10.
I wish I could play it again though.
