I am attempting to make a genetic breed (along side my colour-project) of a species of norn that lives off of Cyanide.
But first of all, is there a way to create a way of a norn to emit a chemical to their surroundings? I would like to make it so they create cyanide, since I am also going to develop that they need to be around others of their kind to survive. (That and it's detrimental to other norn's health to be around them)
Any help would be wonderful. :] |

I'm pretty sure it would have to be done with CAOS, somehow. |

not that I'm aware, try coding a special kind of bacteria for them? |

Hmm... Alright. Does put a kink in my plans. Well, I'd be able to make everything else work through different means, but I'd have to cut the detrimental to other norns part. (Except when they breed, who knows what would pop out then. o__O. Because when I first tested creating Cyanide, I forgot to remove one of the Cyanide genes, and the norn lived for only a second before dying. TT__TT)
I dunno if I'd be able to learn to CHAOS well enough, fast enough, to be able to do it. ^__^; Never done it before.
But thanks. I appreciate it. |

CAOS is a weird coding language, though; you might want to get help on something this weird. |

Well, I've fiddled with C++ and that's a pretty complex coding language. I'll check out CHAOS code to see what I can do for these little guys.
Norns can't even emit smells? If they can do THAT, then I can surely do something... |

CAOS is utterly simple if you have any familiarity with C-style languages, or anything at all really. Resources are pretty easy to find, there are some good synopses of the various file types/engine variables/etc up on the creatures wiki. You'll definitely want the CAOS tool and CAOS debugger from gameware, once you have those you'll be pretty much set.
I don't think norns can emit CAs (other than norn smell? really, this is out of my league) but I could be wrong. |

Oh yes, I downloaded and even saved a lot of the tutorial pages onto my computer. (Just in case, you know).
Now, if it were as simple as the Norn Smell being an actual gene, and I duplicate it and change it to Cyanide... then all would be well.
But I checked through those genes rather thoroughly. I don't think so.
I guess an Agent for them is in order...
I wonder where I should start. o__O |

Actually, this is pretty simple. Just take one of the spare CA chemicals and have it so that whenever a norn smells that CA chemical, their body produces cyanide. Then the norn also emits this same smell, so it will help norns of its kind around it.

KC11, that wouldn't work at all
e: maybe the spare CA part, but you'd have to, y'know, give norns a gene to RECOGNIZE it and so on if you did it genetically. bacterial emitters would be far more portable |

what about two norns one that lives off cyanide and produces what ever chemical and another that lives off whatever chemical and produces cyanide |

@gryph
I was just thinking in terms of other norns of the same breed recognizing the scent, not other norn breeds. I guess I didn't read his post too clearly. -_-

's ok
for what it's worth, I think it's an interesting concept, especially as an extended toxic norn genome. |
