This is going to sound like a very odd question but, how tall/large are Norns/Ettins/Grendels? I always imagined them as small-ish critters, but then I realised how the tools and doorways in the games are proportioned to them.

So, then, they're Shee-sized? Which brings us back to 'how tall are they?'

I'm mainly curious because I have some ideas for some Creatures crossover doodles, and want to get the general sizes right when putting Norns, Grendels, etc. next to a human character.

We have no canonical answer, but I see them as shoulder height to Shee, and the Shee as slightly taller than humans so yeah... they would be pretty scary to behold lol

They would need to be large enough to serve Shee with tea and biscuits though, so they couldn't be too small.

I've always imagined norns and ettins... let's say coming up to the height of a doorknob. A grendel would be head and shoulders above, especially the large C3 grendels, they would probably outweigh a fit male human. The size of a chimp, let's say?

I think most people imagine them human-sized, because they do match the size of the furniture and doors, but I don't know, I just can't imagine them to be so large with their proportions. Their neck would just snap.

Personally, I imagine the shee about the size of tall, slender humans and norns, ettins and grendels are maybe waist-height (hair not included).
I think that'd bring them to a good balance between being cute and being good their canonical purposes of carrying around tablets of tea and biscuits (norns) and clearing out debris and old handheld tools (ettins).

Just imagine this big-eyed, child-sized creature offering you a beverage while it babbles in it's silly language!

That does sound rather scary. XD

This is what's pretty much thrown me out. I've been trying to work out if the furniture and doors were made specifically for Norns or if the Norns are just... big.

That sounds like a good middle-ground, as does SpaceShipRat's 'Norns - doorknob height/Grendels - chimp-sized' suggestion. They do sound a bit closer to what I had in mind.

When I get around to doing these doodles (whenever that will be), I'll keep these suggestions in mind. Thank you all for your help.

Funny idea, I never really thought that much about their size.
I imagined them being smaller. Compared to the tomatos, carrots, bees and other things from Creatures 1 and 2 they don't look that tall.

I always figured they'd be about the size of a small monkey or a large cat. Some built/non-natural items seem to be in proportion to them but others don't - the C1 coffee pot for example would be about three feet tall. Most of the natural items like fruit and flowers seem bigger. Granted we don't know how big Albian plants and so on are either but can you imagine the size of the classic feverfew and the dragonflies and frogs etc if norns were almost as big as humans? :P

Though I do like the idea of a norn the size of a human as that would be both hilarious and terrifying to encounter one!

Reading about the idea of 'scarily large' Norns reminds me of a video clip where somebody mods a bunch of Creatures Adventures/Playground Norns into C3, and the former Norns ended up looking huge and rather unnerving! XD

Yeah, there have been breed conversions of the CA breeds. Unfortunately they don't work too well unless downscaled. It's not that they were done sloppily, though.
There is a problem with a whole lot of things like doors, elevators and teleporters. Most of them assume creatures to fall into a certain size range. When that range is exceeded, odd things start to happen.
You might've noticed for example that sometimes elevators can't grab grendels when they are in unfortunate poses. CA breeds are so huge that this pretty much always happens.

I always imagined the hand as being about 8"/20cm, so that'd by my starting point.
