That's why mental health organisations are now petitioning games companies to remove the plastic surgery themes in their work. It's Spil's decision to offer these kinds of games, even if 'everyone else is doing it'.

Probably. I don't see us getting any more news for the rest of the year, unfortunately. :(

I actually watched a video about those fake children's videos that are spreading over YouTube like a cancer, and apparently they're raking in over ten thousand dollars a day. It's disgusting.

iDubbbz' content cop video on toy channels comes to mind. Won't link it though, as he isn't exactly a very PG channel.

I feel like h3h3 did it better than idubbbz, unlike the techrax videos, but he isn't really PG either.

Spil reckons that it's ok to sneak cosmetic surgery themes into an otherwise demystifying game about operations. They managed to screenshot the very part of the game where an additional nose job was being discussed and told me that the reason she was undergoing surgery was a medical one, not a cosmetic one, despite the cosmetic procedure being offered as a 'would you like fries with that?' kind of thing.

People's ability to rationalize things is truly amazing.

Also I thought the Creatures Family thing was dead but Soil is doing their own Creatures thing which that have assured us is not dead? Or am I getting names mixed up?

It doesn't help that they've continued to use the Creatures Online Facebook page. Creatures Online is dead, Creatures Family is being developed by Spil.

I still think we should get everyone together to pool our money and try to buy the Creatures IP. I'm not exactly sure how much it would be, but it *is* a failing franchise. I truly wonder how much it would be to get Creatures in the hands of the fans.

They're a trashy game developer. Of course they'll sell, they're just fishing for a better deal than it's worth because they want to make sure their investment wasn't a waste.

It would be really cool if the Creatures IP could somehow be owned by the community as a whole, kinda like or pretty much exactly open-sourcing. Pretty much what happened to Blender.

I don't think we'll be seeing Creatures Family this year, or even next year. Such a shame a franchise like Creatures is being mishandled in such a way. At least we've got Grandroids to look forward to.

I feel saddened that such a fantastic series has been reduced to a shallow flash game. They couldn't even get the species right for the White Haired Pixie Norns.

I gave the "Creatures Alchemist" a serious and neutral shot. I loathe it.

I like properly produced games, but I don't mind a few mini-games as they can be some silly fun. Neither do I mind mini-stray-of-games based on a main concept, say, Pokémon pinball or... whatever.

I didn't get far, but the graphics looks... somewhat okay. It's very facebook-gameish, ie not too cheap as they want people to invest enough into it to earn the producer money. It's like cartoony creatures, and funnily the limbs-are-separate-graphics reminds me a lot of the original games.

I really like the aquatic norn design (dunno what studio invented these, Fishing cactus?) and I was surprised that there are grendels (which that shee apparently is really biased against and throws into jail on sight :P ). I really like that they based the creatures on the original designs instead of going with the "refreshed" look that they went for with "Creatures 4" originally.

Now, I despise the wait-or-pay deal. I get it, the developer earn money that way, but it ruins the experience completely to me. I rather pay and be over with it. We're not talking irl money per say here, but they want you to watch ads which is nearly the same thing.

Now the most important part. I find the game utterly BORING and FRUSTRATING. Is it even a game?? You randomly splice "elementals" and hope for the best. You try try try. That's it. That's the game. I'm curious to see what the other breeds look like, especially the grendels, and if there are ettins. But no. I'm not going to sit there and get enraged because all my splicing is failing, wait for "recourses" to be able to splice more and watch ads. That's not entertainment to me.

I mean I've had my fair share of tossing grendels into airlocks, but what are they doing on Sphericus? This was supposed to be a safe planet!

The planet may been safe but that Shee just engineered grendels onto the planet by the use of spheres. Thus he'll ruin everything if the grendels of his run away, haha.

Played this game for a just few minutes now. Two words. Doodle. God. It's literally doodle god. Throw elements together, get more elements. Keep making elements until it gets obscure and dumb.

EDIT: Tried it some more. It's doodle god but even more frustrating. Finally find 2 things that work together, constantly have to re-add them cuz the third one pops them back out! UUURRGH

I've got mixed feelings about this, even though it's a bit early to jump to conclusions; now it feels like Spilgames is turning Creatures into some random browser game that you play a few times and then forget again. They surely put some work into Creatures Alchemist, but it seems rather simple. It's certainly good to see that the Creatures series has not been forgotten, but what I hope is that Spilgames can restore the series to their former glory. Just look at how much work went into the original games: Genetics that distinguish every single Creature, stunning graphics and designs (for late 90's & early 2000) and the possibility to make additional game content completely on your own. And all of that on an old engine that was composed somewhere around 95.

I like that Spilgames is sticking to existing Norn designs and that they're giving us something to think about. How on Sphericus did the Grendels end up there? (Creatures Family aside: Read up on official Docking Station lore if you haven't yet. It's all nice to read. :)) But (if I may speak for all of us) what we as existing Creatures fans would need is a reason to upgrade to Creatures Family from the original games. If it's not an advancement to C3/DS for instance, why wouldn't we just stick to those games?

Also, to those that fear the free-to-play model of Creatures Family: Mind you that Creatures Docking Station followed a very similar (but more primitive) system where the complete game is free but where it has (micro)transactions in the Gameware Shop, let alone that some 3rd party developers also charged some bucks for some of their stuff. Speaking hypothetically, Spilgames might just decide to follow the tradition and only feature extra breeds and expansions in their game shop. Would that truly be so different from what C3 and DS used to be?

I completely understand if people here are upset and not satisfied with what they've seen of Creatures Family and Spilgames so far, because I'm not feeling very enthusiastic so far either. But sadly all we can do for now is wait for more news.

I wouldn't mind another docking station. I found docking station to be quite fun, even on it's own. When you download more rooms from the community and even join in with events to get certain rooms (NG4, you had to donate to a good cause and show proof you did). Spending money on the extra official breeds was also completely fine in my book, because it adds something to the game.
What I don't like is the, as Uzag put it, wait or pay-deal. Timers are fine. It takes time for an egg to hatch even in the old games. But the time isn't too long, and it's fine to wait. They make the times extra long so you will want to spend money on hatching it. This doesn't add anything to the game. It doesn't add a new breed, a new room, or even a new toy. It just makes you wait less. And that is what bugs me personally. If they go with that model.

Creatures Alchemist is a puzzle-game. It's not a geneticly advanced AI-game. It's a straight up puzzle-game. The graphics are hilarious. You can tell they spent time on them, for sure, they are well enough made. But the art style is very comical. And they are face-fronting the norns, so we can't tell if they have tails or not. But the front of the norns, do look like norns.
The norns, from what I've gathered from my play-time, doesn't do anything but stand in their spot, saying things when you hover your mouse over them. I feel like, they aren't the focus for the gameplay, the combining of elements are. Which is basically wrapping a creatures-costume on top of a puzzle game.

It's a mini-game, if anything. Which is kind of what the studio promised, if my memory serves me correctly? I believe they did promise there would be a mini-game or something else small by the summer, to keep us occupied until they can release the bigger game. So in a sense, they've kept the promise when it comes to this. Now the question is; the bigger game they are working on, if they are, will it be true to the series?

I don't think they spent time on the graphics. Most of them are just reusing what EDIT: *Fishing Cactus (forgot their name) had produced for Creatures 4, and I bet the elements are also from some publicly available asset pack, they have nothing to do with the artstyle of the rest of the game.

the norn designs are so...cursed image. the grendels less so.

like, the aqua norn looks like someone fused an espurr, a robot, and a frog norn and then threatened the result with a baseball bat.

Gross I thought it was gonna be a cute generic mix-and-match parts to make a norn game but no it's one of them weird wait-or-pay games.

How obnoxious.

And the 'white haired pixie norn' is the toxic norn that is hilariously bad.

Between my love of cookies, tea, and the observation of genetics in nature I'm practically a Shee.[ngrin]

It's not even a good toxic norn, it's weirdly creepy and something is up with its limbs.

not as bad as the golden desert though.
