EA's Spore Game 1 | 2 | 3 | |

I've heard people mention something called 'Spore' before and I didn't really know what they were talking about before I read this thread.
I must say though, from reading HM's helpful explanation, it sounds absolutely ace. It sounds like my kind of game, and I'll be definately investing in it once it comes out (maybe I'll pre-order if I'm feeling a little dangerous.)
Conquering the virtual globe isn't as good as conquering the real one, but it'll certainly come close, so until I can take over the world for good, I'll be playing spore |

You want to take over the world?
You have to get by me and my band of angry villagers first!
But yeah, spore is cool...

Any word on the potential stats for this game? I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I'd like to be able to play it on whatever I end up buying, if possible. >_>
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

Is spore going to be relesed on mac?
Because it would look cool on mac. (I don't care what anyone says. Macs may be slow, but they look cool.)

...I wonder if you could make an amphibian organisim? does it have to be a vertabrate? could it be a living slime? should I be putting copyrights on all these ideas before I say them? all these questions spin around the creative SPORE team...

For referrence, all Maxis games have worked on Mac, and Both Will Wright and the lead artist Ocean Quigley have aluded to a Mac version of the game.
Will said something along hte lines of "Maybe I can convince (I forgot the name of the company they use, so this is where it should go) to do it for me" when asked whether it would work for mac. |

Heck, yeah, you can make invertibrates! you don't *have* to make it evolve into something with a skeleton, you know.....

The super-intelegent jellyfish!
O.k, who has more info?
Like, what are the multyplayer/internet abilities?

Actually, from what I've seen, the whole thing is based on a skeleton. :/
The creatures still seem to have boundaries and stuff. There's a limited set of hands, feet, eyes, beaks, claws,...to choose from. But since they're all adjustable in itself the possibilities are stil close to infinite.
I think it'll be harder/impossible to have the really strange kind of beings such as blobs of jelly, intelligent shades of blue or cells made from plasma. Even though they might as well exist for real.

There is a difference between a Endoskeleton and a 3d modleing skeliton.
I mean giving the illiusion of jellyness. (I love making 3D squids)
theres also the possiblity of multiple limbs, (other than 2legs, 2arms) I guess you could make an arthopod or somthing too.
But again, what are the multyplayer qualities?

What's the difference between a modelling skeleton and endoskeleton, then? Both are used as a frame to put the rest of the body on, so that it can bend at the joints, keep in the right shape and support the creature.
Lots of limbs with lots of joints would make it sortof jelly-like, though.
So far, Spore has no form of real-time multiplayer at all. You can encounter objects and creatures designed by other players, but that's as much multiplayer as downloading an agent for Creatures 3.

I hope they can make som multyplayer thing other than that (But that is really cool).
P.s a modleing skeliton doesent support the object that make up the figure: they just control position, you could have a bone attached to a leg a mile away.
But you make a good point.

You can remove the skeleton alltogether if you want. In the video where the guy is going through the game and telling you what it's about, there were some jellyfish.

That was a squid, and that can be easily made with lots of joints on a skeleton.

I watched it again, and it were either squid things or wierd plants. Definately not jellyfish.
It's a very early video, too. And one of the earliest stages as well, I bet there might be some things that are just meant to be food.

In one of the later videos it's seen that they either hunt for other creatures, or eat eggs. I'm sure there can be herbivores as well.

I wonder if it is possible to have plant-like creatures that gain food/energy from the sun?

World domination would not be quite as easy if you were sitting there eating sunlight all day.
Unless the creature has legs.

I doubt it. Like KC11 says, World Domination would not be quite as easy if you were sitting there eating sunlight all day.
Besides, plant creatures would need food, too. They only use the sunlight as a source of energy. That's why plants have roots. (Except the occasional freaky plant thing that lives on air and light alone, but those are lame and won't dominate anything soon)
Also, plants really don't process a lot of energy. That's why they don't move about. They survive by going slow and really not needing much when conditions are right.
