This .zip contains the egg agents you need to make A-name/Gen1 Grendeltails, the same as I used when I first started breeding them. I don't exactly think of them as a genetic breed, although I guess the mass of later gens do probably qualify as one. But keep in mind that, since you're starting from scratch here, the genetic destiny of your later-gen Grendeltails may well turn out very different from mine!

These were all made with EasyGMS, and each color group has somewhat different modifications, with the later ones often intended to correct mistakes or miscalculations in the earlier ones. As I did, you will probably want to mix the colors for that reason, though trying to breed 'pure' lines might be very interesting to see what happens. If I recall correctly I based them all on the Magma genome, but I used mostly Bengal and Harlequin sprites for the body parts other than the tail. A few Bruin, Chichi, and Magma parts were used at times too IIRC - I know those parts have made it into the later generations.

Please note that Grendeltails are very much the opposite of colortrue! The A-names/1st-gens will have stable color through their lifetime, but mutations will have color change from growth popping up within a few generations, more than likely.

SCARLET GRENDELTAILS were the originals. I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong, but I found these rather fragile - I had trouble raising one to adulthood in order to be part of the breeding group with the rest. I'm interested to learn if others have as much trouble with them as I did.

VERMILLION GRENDELTAILS were made specifically to improve on the Scarlets and were successful in that regard, though I still considered them imperfect for reasons I no longer recall (it's been a little while since I messed with the first gens). I found them easier to raise and breed.

VIRIDIAN GRENDELTAILS were next, and represent less an attempt to improve on the design so much as a variation on it, an experimenting to see how different they'd be if I did this or that. I wish I'd made a note of the specific modifications to each one, but at the time it didn't occur to me. D'oh.

INDIGO GRENDELTAILS were made more because I wanted a full starting color set than anything else, but they do include some changes from the Vermillion and Viridian. These were not overly successful at first, but ultimately their contribution to my Grendeltail lineage is pretty strong, so they must have done pretty well in the feral/wolfling times.

LAMPBLACK GRENDELTAILS came last, and represent my final attempt at correcting some of the flaws and problems with the earlier versions. This one is probably the most successful overall, although it's hard to tell several generations on. In any event, these were the hardiest in my worlds, though I'm interested to hear how they work out in yours.

If you have downloaded this file and make use of these agents, please let me know what happens in your world and how they worked out if you have the time/feel the inclination. I am very curious to hear about Grendeltail evolution in other worlds, especially if you let them wolfling as I have (though I am also curious to hear about how they respond to a less absent and more nuturing hand).

I can be found on CreaturesCaves.com as Lurhstaap, and I very much look forward to hearing from you, whomever you are!
