I'm aware quite a few people play Ark: Survival Evolved so decided to start a new topic as an area of discussion. I'm not sure about the forum's stance on the discussion or sharing of servers/server addresses so these subjects might not be allowed. If a mod could perhaps confirm this is true I would appreciate it.

I've been hooked on the game a lot recently - I haven't yet played multiplayer, only single-player, so I obviously have to do everything myself, which means things are progressing a little slower than they otherwise would. Unfortunately, I have died on several occasions due to my own fault - mostly those blasted Megapiranhas catching me off guard! I also lost a lot of items on one occasion too, although I should probably start laying down beds a lot more often so I don't have to respawn miles away. :P

Seeing as servers/server addresses aren't really personal information, I'd say sharing them here is fine. Just be aware that you are making the information public, and to be cautious where necessary. :)

I'm on a server where everything is ultra OP and fast, so I usually tame a bunch of dinos on that server and then name them the most inappropriate things possible.

I quite like the idea behind taming, but I tweaked it a little bit so it takes half as long as it normally does. It's a shame I died before I managed to fully tame a stegosaurus I found though.

Taming takes a while, I tweaked my game to make it take less time too, but that's nothing compared to breeding :\.

I have hatched 4 dilo eggs and each time the babies died within seconds. I heard that Rex eggs can take over 5 hours to hatch, that's a lot of time to waste for a dead baby...

Has anyone managed to successfully raise a baby dinosaur?

Keep putting meat in their inventory until they are at the juvenile stage. So far it is best to hatch one or two and focus on them unless you have a tribe helping out.

I don't see how you can even raise dinos. I play on a server where you get fifty times the meat, and I had to go to bed when my first Dire Wolf pup was born, so it died in the night.

I made sure my 4th hatched within range of a trough full of meat, I also tried giving it meat directly but for some reason it wouldn't accept any.

I play single player so I have no one else to help me, but even if I did they are still waaaaay too needy! I hope they get a re-balance, it's even worse for players on a dedicated server.

I really want to play this game sometime, it reminds me a lot of that one cartoon that aired in the 80/90s, with the humans riding on the dinosaurs and then there was baddies riding dinosaurs too, but they didn't treat the dinosaurs well and stuff and stuff. I don't remember what the show was called. But it looked like so much fun to ride on dinosaurs so playing the game would be a bit of a dream come true :D
So it's interesting to read all your experiences while I wait!

I still haven't yet managed to craft a saddle - I did have a Carbonemys at one point that I intended to ride in the future, but I lost it when I got killed by a Dilophosaurus and it had a lot of my items with it. :(

Hmmm I didn't catch it this last sale, dang. I also don't have a lot of time during the day so I fear my dinos would die, seeing your comments, heh.

Depends if you play multi-player or not. If it's multiplayer time passes even if you're not playing, but the opposite is true with single-player.

The alternative would be to host a non-dedicated server, which would let you play a limited multiplayer but have time pass the same way as in single player.

Has anybody else had problems with dinosaurs/animals getting stuck behind trees and rocks? It's useful when trying to kill/tame them, but a complete nightmare when you've tamed them and they're following you. I decided to take my pack (two trikes and three dilophosaurs) with me into quite a dense forest, and I had to constantly cut down trees because the trikes kept getting stuck. Very annoying indeed.

On the subject of packs, I highly recommend taming at least three or four dinosaurs - they're extremely useful when navigating risky areas such as forests or other places where creatures such as raptors can ambush. Although I do admit, watching a trike ram a dodo straight-on is pretty hilarious. [nlaugh]

Yeah, seems like every 3rd animal spawns inside a tree and the pathing AI for your tamed dinos is terrible. I have lost my dilos numerous times and had to run back to discover them stuck behind rocks or cliffs.

Agreed on taming packs, I have a pack of 8 dilos that can easily take down a bronto, I also have a pack of 4 raptors for hunting and scouting.

Where did you build your base?

I've built several, but my most recent one is alongside a river, which is pretty shallow, so I can access the other side easily. I had a run in earlier with a Gigantopithecus, and I was certain I'd die - I brushed alongside it, making it agitated, and it chased me into the water. The dinosaurs helped fight it off, but unfortunately they all crowded around me whilst I was swimming, so I had to hit them with my pickaxe in order to back off so I could surface for air.

Once on the other side, the Gigantopithecus decided to come back, but was soon killed by one of my triceratops. I also witnessed a Mesopithecus get sent flying across the river after it had been charged by one of my trikes. Hilarious!

I'm kinda tempted to run a server for CC members, and make it all about breeding.

I'm wondering if there would be enough people interested to populate a server. Who might join it?

My idea is:

Taming/resource multipliers, Whitelist, PvP allowed for convenience (PvE servers don't let you grab things) but "no pvp unless agreed" as server rule. With events (people could build arenas/race courses of their own) to win admin-recolored creatures with colors that you can't find in the wild, but that you can then breed and trade.

Just so there's enough people at the same time to talk and run events, at least on weekends, we could invite people from games like Flight Rising, though I don't have any I personally trust.

Hng I wish I could but I'm not buying it again until it's out and proven to actually work on 'not super new high end' pc's...

I really like the idea tho!

What does everyone think of alpha dinosaurs? I absolutely detest them - I had an alpha raptor completely slaughter my mammoth, stegosaurus, triceratops, sarchosucus and ankylosaurus. I do like a challenge, but they're so overpowered it's ridiculous.

The "raptor" is a Utah raptor, but there are also Oviraptors, Dilophosaurs and Compsognathus'.

One Utahraptor still couldn't do that tho. Maybe it's on steroids haha

"Alpha" creatures are basically mutants that are 10x as strong as the original. So yeah, some serious steroids.

They haven't revealed the lore behind the game, but it's established that "someone" put cloned people and dinosaurs to put them on the Ark island, so the dinosaurs aren't faithful to the originals.

I think it's a pretty clever way to get around the fact that paleontologists argue a lot, and new data is always being found, so it's impossible to be accurate. Not to mention that it gives them an excuse to make dilophosaurus spit venom, and scale up various creatures so you can ride them!

Pfft, the game is practically unplayable for me at the moment; it randomly crashes when I open the inventory, and froze before when I tried to manually save. Doesn't matter to the devs though, they're more interested in adding in new content than actually fixing these issues! [nangry]

Edit: Turns out all I had to do was run the game in low-memory mode and now it runs fine - seems the game suffers from horrific memory leaks due to being unoptomized.

I'm playing on EU pvp primitive server now, with two amazing scottish dudes I just met in-game, which means I'm in an english speaking tribe and if any of you wants to join, it would be super cool.

"primitive" server means there's no guns, metal walls and super high tech, which means you don't have to spend as much effort just leveling up and building defenses, and there's more time to have fun.

it still is an official server, which means 1. it's not going to be wiped or disappear, 2. doing stuff takes time or collaboration. Even someone that can log in only in the weekend, can help in a larger tribe.

Just putting this out there, if someone already has the game but doesn't know where to play/ never tried multiplayer

Despite poor Optimization with DX11, this game is now part of my fanon metaverse. Linked to it are other games and cartoons, including: Fallout, SatAM, Creatures (duh), MLP:FiM/EqG, among several others.

It's all part of a second FusionFall-based project to re-isolate the universes to mend the tears in the dimensional fabric.

Ark is on sale and new official servers on a new (fanmade!) map are coming out, so it's a good moment to get the game (keeping in mind this goes on sale pretty often, so no rush if you're waiting for the summer steam sales or whatever)

@felinorn sounds interesting, especially as they'll be revealing some lore in a couple patches

Old topic, but is there anyone interested in maybe forming a server? I believe the finished game actually comes out this week.
