This is a thread for discussing anything related to loving everyone and being open-minded and supportive of people regardless of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, etc. etc.

Feel free to share articles or stories that are inspirational or create awareness of the differences that makes every one of us special and unique. :)

Nothing has been posted in here yet, so I'd like to share this news article about a new Tide laundry detergent advert that features a same sex couple, and is a clear stab at Kim Davis, a clerk who was jailed after refusing to authorize marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

I think everyone should be able to get married, regardless if it is a man or a woman. Obviously this is an issue that relates to me as well, as I'm gay, and I don't understand why some people have such an issue with it when there are more important issues. Don't like same-sex marriage? Don't marry someone of the same sex then! [nlaugh]

I'm just starting to accept myself as asexual. It still *irks* me that it's one less thing though which I can relate to people.

One thing that makes it harder is the whole crew of "internet people" who think it's legitimate of them to hate and harass non LGBT people, that I'd hate to be associated with.

I used to know a transgender person once. He was very nice actually. He and his gf even invited me to cinema once :D

I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmKix-75dsg presents an interesting perspective on gender from someone who doesn't have gender.

Not sure if this fits, buuut...

When I was growing up, I had this idea of "adulthood" and the many things that would entail, things that would become mandatory or unavoidable. Obvious things like job, rent, etc. But also, finding a partner, getting married, and having children.

That last one terrified little me so much. Even as a small child, I knew I never wanted to have kids, and I never wanted to experience the pain (and permanent physical wreakage) of childbirth. But it seemed, like all those other things, inevitable; you don't get to say "no." You HAVE to have kids someday, and you'd better not leave it too late, either!

I continued to fear this eventuality even through my teens. In my early twenties, I felt pressured to find boyfriends and make something work. Whenever I had a breakup, I resented them so much for the time they wasted. I could hear that ticking clock in the back of my mind; not the clock people usually talk about, though, not that "biological clock" that makes women crazy for babies. This clock spelled impending doom.

As I progressed through my 20s, though, I had a dawning realisation, and it came in part due to exposure to the many facets of humanity I had encountered online. Being exposed to so many people from so many backgrounds and cultures opened my eyes, and slowly, I came to the realisation: I did not need to have children. It was a choice. It was not required to lead a happy and fulfilled life. It would not put me in any societal disadvantage; indeed, quite the opposite. Staying childfree would open so many doors and allow for so many possibilities for my future. I had always known it would be better this way, but I had been crushed by a sense of artificial guilt, that somehow this decision was inherently wrong, or selfish, or unkind.

Knowing that there is nothing selfish about it, I've felt such an enormous relief about my future. But at the same time, I know that I am lucky to have broken away from the 'script'. So many people don't even realise they have this choice, people who don't want kids but think that's wrong and to be a good person they just need to suck it up and breed.

But there's hope. The childfree lifestyle has been gaining popularity over recent years, and more people are aware of their freedom to choose their futures. :) This means less children born to resentful or abusive/neglectful parents; less divorce caused by having children; less children going into foster care because unprepared parents bankrupted themselves; less economic burden on countries and carbon footprints; and lowered birthrates against the terrifying overpopulation of our planet.

I am happy and eternally relieved to call myself childfree for life! :)

I'm all for all of these things! I discovered last year that I'm agender, and that is a part of something known as being nonbinary, or not of the gender binary that's male or female. A lot of people don't know about it yet, and I hope that along with more transgender awareness(it falls under that umbrella) it will be more recognized. I'm also asexual I think. I don't really talk about that as much, but I try to get agender stuff out there more. It's just hard because most people don't really get it. Society still likes to put people in two boxes, girl or boy. Pink or blue. *sigh*

Did anyone see that cute Campbell's commercial with the kid and his two dads? It was great.
