GIMP is destroying your BMP files? | |

A (partly) resolution.
I noticed a problem that seems to be known for some months but I did not find a fix for it. It seems that GIMP is ruining BMP files when one exports them:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/6114
I first noticed this as I exported my metaroom backgrounds in GIMP.
Windows Paint can open the files and edit, but programs like GIMP or Krita cannot use them anymore, after they where exported and changed with GIMP.
This is a big issue, because it can destroy a lot of work, especially when someone is doing animation files for agents or a new norn breed. You cannot edit and change them anymore with GIMP, or use them as masks for something or parts of it.
Any solution for the problem? Yes, I found one, but it is a little work: Open the “corrupted” BMP files with Windows Paint and save them once(just click save) and they can be imported to GIMP again.
But GIMP destroys them again, if you export them. You have to save them with Windows Paint again to open them again. |

if you mean the original paint it does not support transparency.
I'd honestly recommend using paint.net it works well, has layers and supports transparency. |
