Subject: Creatures Game Update
Message Body:
Hello,
On March 9, 2016 Spil Games announced that it would taking over the development of the latest Creatures series game (http://www.spilgames.com/press/creatures-reborn-mobile-age/).
Are there any updates on the status of the project? I haven't been able to find any on the Spil Games website.
Thanks!
Rascii

Aww, saddening. I also had sent an e-mail a few days ago, but it was to the address listed under contacts. No response as of yet however. D; |

I hope Spil games don't just sit on the IP indefinitely.
I feel kinda bad for Fishing Cactus, they were so close yet so far. |

The owners of the IP should just make the original Creatures game open-source at this point. |

What was that one saying? No news is good news, or something like that?
With Spil's portfolio we may be dodging a bullet here. Unless there is someone at the company really into Creatures behind the acquisition we're unaware of. |

Hello,
Are you unable to provide any more information than that?
Will there be any news in 2017? Has the project been abandoned?

I'm trying to be positive but seeing as they literally broke their promise of releasing something in summer I don't hold much hope. I'm also somewhat scared if they decide to redesign the Norns - at least the Creatures Online design stayed somewhat true to the original. With Spil I'm worried we might get some hideous remake. |

1. Release date promises, I've learned, mean absolutely nothing no matter who says it.
*glares at how the McLeodGaming promised to release SSF2 Beta by the end of 2016... in January*
So that alone I've just learned to accept as a fact of life. Game developers can't be trusted with release dates, period.
2. The Creatures Online designs were hideous. |

I can understand where you're coming from, to me they felt too modern, and not as cute as the old designs. I just hope Spil Games don't go ahead and completely ruin their design even further.
Saying that, while I do like the C3/DS designs, I much prefer the C1/C2 Norns, as they have a lot more character in my opinion, whereas C3/DS was made at a period where 3D was becoming popular so I'm guessing they wanted to jump on the 3D bandwagon.
Personally, I'd love to see a new Creatures game with completely hand-drawn sprites à la Dust: An Elysian Tail. |

@C-Rex Back when I tried to learn 3D modeling--(I'm the worst 3D modeler you can imagine). It took me like 2 weeks to make a 3D model of a C2 norn head, C3/DS took about an hour. |

I loved the colors used in the creatures 3/DS creatures, but I loved how each type of Norn in Creatures 1 had unique features. 3/DS norns really have very little in difference besides their fur and eye colors. Same ear shapes pretty much. Same tails.
I'd hope any new creatures games makes the different species of norns feel unique again beyond behavioral/internal differences.

It seems like they want it as a prestige title, so that's encouraging. I've found out they've recently released a game called Endless Lake - should we be playing that to support Spil, or waiting for Creatures Family so that they know we want Creatures?

@Malkin you can play it on their website, I assume they get ad revenue, but I block ads. Now I think all mobile games are trash, and it's definitely a mobile game, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Now my time developing Kreatures is good for a first timer, but if I had a few games under my belt, I would have been finished back in February.
To make this point, I point to 'Quick and Silva': a game developed from scratch in 2 weeks by 3 people from Factor 5, I would put endless lake on about the same level as 'Quick and silva', except they used an existing engine, so I would say this is the kind of game I would expect to see from a game jam--where you develop a game in a day with a random team; either way add about a week of polish onto that. If this is their most recent game, and they want you to buy it rather than just having it on their site as a distraction, and it released in 2016, be afraid. |

Yeah I always loved the color/tinting system used in C3/DS and the differences/style of the C1 and C2 norns, I would love to see those features come back again, hopefully together! |

Nothing new yet. To be honest, I have EXTREME misgivings about this. I am much more confident in Geat_Masta, the other Creatures community members who are working on their own Creatures sequel or alife projects, and Steven Grand's Grandroids. Those, I think, will be the next-Creatures thing we all crave. I just don't see how a company like this can produce a good Creatures game, even one like C3DS which as we all know is rushed and sloppy in some ways compared to C1.
Conclude with killer catchphrase.

I'm honestly expecting the worst, giving Spil Games' current back catalogue of games. My sister used to go on their website, "GirlGoGames" and they're the most simple, shallow games ever. |

After reading a news article on games for girls with plastic surgery, I contacted Spil Games to find out if they had any such games, and they got back to me that they didn't know. Their game operate now: nose surgery involves a girl with breathing difficulties also as an aside being given a nose with a more aesthetically pleasing shape.

....Why is it the game company's fault and not the parents?
Also i've seen weirder games for kids, like with dressupwho.com, the question is mostly "how do these concepts sync up? why elsa pregnant foot check?" While with kids stuff on youtube, you have like spiderman has an abortion and hulk eats the fetus, and the more fetishistic stuff is the stuff getting the most views.
And if you're thinking "how do you know it's kids watching it then?" because the comments resemble what you'd get from randomly mashing a tablet screen.

There are many games available via Spil - the other games look innocuous enough, or even demystifying what goes on in a doctor's office. It's not necessary for Spil to point out that the girl's nose needs to be aesthetically improved - all that would be needed after her 'surgery' would be to reconstruct it.

I still blame the parents for letting them on a website like spil's in the first place. You can say they're mostly innocuous but it's still teaching them to have low standards, right? |

here's a game about giving liposuction to elsa: http://www.elsagames.org/play/Elsa-Liposuction-Surgery.html
I've known about this stuff for years, part of the reason for doing kreatures is trying to raise the bar for kid's entertainment. so maybe it's just that i'm so desensitized to it. But if you know a kid that is on sites like this, know that these sorts of games are the STANDARD for the content they are getting. |
