Limpy is rad. I don't even know how Norns get so ****ed up.

For all those wondering, Limpy is a JayD Canny Wolfling.

I um... does... anyone want to post their Norns for the challenge?

I 100%'ed Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy, which means there are two games to go.

Sorry about that, still working on mine. I had a weird mutation crop up in my prep group that distracted me. (Attention Lobe malfunction! Nasty.)

C2 is not a game that's played as often as the others, and the community is pretty small. You may have to wait a while to get a significant number of entries unfortunately.

Hah, well as long as I'm around this post will practically be stickied to the top. All hail TheDrunkenNorn Wolfling Runs. Submit and obey. [nevil] Buhahahahhahahahahhahahh!

On a serious note, this is still more recognition than I figured Creatures 2 would get. I'm so impressed with this site. If I end up being the only one bringing the wonderment of Creatures 2, then I take that burden with joy.

Don't forget to post your Norns for the User-Submitted Wolfling Run!

See you guys soon :) .

TDN, don't think people don't care just because they aren't submitting norns. I like your wolfling runs and followed this whole post, but I don't have any norns to send. The only C2 norns I'm playing with are Kai norns, and adding them to a wolfling run wouldn't be very practical (the genes that make them nurse their young might not breed well with other breeds).

Keep up the posts and don't get discouraged! A lot of may, like me, enjoy reading about your runs but still have nothing to submit.

Paid Mods aren't just affecting the present, they're affecting the past!

So I made an announcement that my newest Wolfling Run would be a desert-based Run. This has changed, however. I recently discovered that Montu, a desert-themed Creatures 2 world, is a paid mod. [nangry]

I have a feeling that I am not the only person that has a certain negative disposition for paid mods. I thought mods were made to prolong a game's lifespan, not cash in on someone else's game.

Rant over, I'm going to move on to the next idea I had in mind:

_____________________________________Nova Subterra Wolfling Run_______________________________________

Hello darkness, my old friend, we meet again.

Remember how I said I hated Nova Subterra Norns back in the first post? Well... this time, I know a bit more about what I'm doing. I have a lot more knowledge about the game since the first post (What am I kidding, it was all the Meat Vines), so I'm going to give the Novas another go. We'll see how they do!

Next update will be after I introduce some Nova Subterra babies into my world! [nsunglasses]

To help diversify the colors in the Nova Subterra group, I garnered the Norns for the run from here.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Theme Song of the Run <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is the Nova Subterra run's theme. Coincidentally, I at one point decided to tab out of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords (Yes, two :'s, they try to hide that redundancy by making the logo look different) while on the last run, and this sounded so good on Creatures 2 gameplay. [ngrin] The music continued playing even after being tabbed out, so that provided us with this strangely specific scenario. The music invokes a feeling of omnipotence, as if you are the Creatures' god.

I've imported the Nova Subterra (10) Norns, and they're fitting in great!

One thing I should mention is that these Nova Subterras are GORGEOUS. They are so pretty.

Here is another picture to prove that point. [nblush]

I've also made another map so that you can again visualize the playing field. This may be the default layout I have for this Wolfling Run and future runs.

D'awww, lookit their adorable little vibrant colourful faces. They are very pretty indeed. :) This is so much of why I love C2 above all else; the sprites are just so beautifully done. More 3-dimensional than C1, but not the 3DSMax abortions that C3 and Village turned out to be.

@GimmeCat

THIS. One thing that bothers me every time I look at Creatures 3 pictures is that the Norns don't look like they're supposed to be on the same area as the background. They look out of place. Because Creatures 2 uses the 2d-esque sprites, they look a lot more like they are actually there.

To give you a better example of what I mean, this happens a lot in anime with poorer budgets. Very often, sections of anime will have these really hastily-put-together looking backdrops for scenes that are clearly CGI while the 2d characters "walk" around on them and interact with them. This creates a large gap between the two in terms of dimension. You know what you are watching is fake because it is not consistent with itself.

HO BOY! She is so totally sitting on that train seat. Dang.

My apologies for the pointlessly long description, but this is what I see as wrong with Creatures 3 coming from someone who has never actually played the game. Take this for example of what I mean. The Norns in Creatures 3 never look like they're supposed to be there. They look like they are on a layer separate from the background. While that is how it actually works, that just means that it fails as a visual illusion. If the objective of the graphics is to fool you into thinking they are real, at least in the context of the game's universe, it needs to fool me into thinking that the art is consistent.

In Creatures 3's defense, however, the examples I am using (Bayonetta: Bloody Fate, an anime movie adaptation of the video game) are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaallly bad. But, it came to mind as the most freakishly abhorent use of CGI that I could think of.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
tl;dr: Creatures 3 sprites look fake, and they do a poor job of fooling me into thinking that the sprites and background have consistency with each other. Also I've never played it so...
______________________________________________________________________________________________________

To be even more fair to Creatures 3, Creatures 4 was going to look terrible. It looks like a cross between Little Big Planet and Mario Galaxy, it's pretty much completely unfaithful to the original game. Creatures 3 is pretty faithful so... at least Creatures 4 was never made. I can't really say that's a wonderful thing to be happy about, but it would have been more insulting to release such an abomination than to not. It suffers from Crystal Skull syndrome; it's like they forgot what was good about the first few games in 4.

My thoughts on the release of information regarding Creatures 4, if you're interested.

That's one reason I use different sprites. :p My game is always filled with Dragon Norns, which use 2D sprites and so look much better to me personally.

To update you guys on the run, it has been 1 hour and only one Norn has been born. Most of the Norns are Adults now, so this puzzles me a bit. It is as if they don't breed as much as other Norn variants.

From what I can tell, these Norns have no clue how to care for their needs. I hope those extra lobes aren't just dead weight.

Hey, I'd like to make a banner for my posts that advertises my Wolfling Runs. Now, I know how to make really cool artsy stuff, you've seen this in my other posts surely, however I don't know how to embed the picture so that it appears as... a picture, rather than a link. I would also like the picture to, when clicked, link straight to my Wolfling Runs. It'd also be nice to embed pictures for the run in general, so that you guys don't have to click on it.

If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know! Thank you.

I would figure out myself, but...

______________________________________Dewa Norns Wolfling Run______________________________________

Hey again! It's time for another Wolfling Run!

I can't stop thinking about the Nova Subterras. They literally did worse than any other breed I've had on this series. The GRENDELS using the base Bony Grendel genome did better. I'm sure I'll wake up one night with my throat cut because the Nova Subterra creator probably hates the bad input I give on that Norn breed, but dang. Those extra lobes are pretty much dead weight. I even caught a Nova Subterra wallbonking, the poor thing.

So, we're going back to the Akamai Canny Breed. Sort of. These are the Dewa Norns, a pretty little Norn with blue coloring! But that isn't all...

_______________________________________Flora Norns Wolfling Run______________________________________

These are the Flora Norns, another pretty Akamai Canny based Norn with rainbow coloring?

So! This is the...

_____________________________________Dewa Flora Norns Wolfling Run___________________________________

Get the Dewa and Flora Norns here!

The creator of both of these Norn types is Amanora, and they are said to be compatible with other Akamai Canny Breeds. So, hopefully, they are compatible with each other.

I apologize for doing what is essentially another Akamai Canny Wolfling Run, but the main reason is that I felt disappointed and heartbroken at how much Nova Subterras suck at even the most basic of tasks. With that in mind, maybe these cute sprite-mixed Akamai Canny Creatures will restore my faith in humanity norns.

I'll post again once I've introduced the two breeds into the world! [ngrin]

I decided to share my three screenshots of the new babies as one big group for you guys. Click this.

The babies are cute as the dickens. There are 6 Dewa Norns and 4 Flora Norns (I like how the Dewa ones look slightly better). As you can see, they naturally have color diversity, making them very interesting to me. Generation 1 Blue Dewas are Male, Pink/Purple Dewas are female, Red Floras are Female, and Male Floras are light Green. I love it.

I'll update again once they begin to grow. They are Akamai Canny, so that may be awhile.

[nblank] Hopefully this run will last a bit longer than a single day [nskull]

Edit: -every- single one of the ten babies is exhausted. Is that bad?

Apparently, the Flora Norns are incredibly fertile, more fertile than the normal Akamai Canny Norns. This is incredibly good news considering my recent downgrade of the maximum population from 40 to 15.

The Dewas, upon reading that thing you're supposed to read, apparently live longer as well. Cool. [nsunglasses]

CLICK THIS. Dewa/Flora hybrids are the best thing since Akamai Canny Norns.

Now, what do I like most about Akamai Canny Norns? They don't die of starvation when food is easily the most abundant resource. It's almost as if they have animal instincts, to eat when hungry, et cetera. They feel a lot more like the "artificial life" stepping stone that Millennium Interactive had striven to achieve.

I added the traditional Akamai Canny Frog Norns to the mix mid-run. Why? Because I wanted to. I don't think that this will compromise the run too much, and I really love the Frog Norns. Praise Akamai Canny Norns for having the Frogs. The population limit seems to not have been reached yet, either... Perhaps the fix to set the 40 Norns cheat back to 20 didn't work?

Edit: 10/14 of the Norns born naturally were born from Angela, a Generation 1 Flora Norn. Bless her heart.

I've implemented GimmeCat's Water Fountain COB into the Wolfling Runs. Before now, they actually haven't had a source of water (Not that that has harmed them any, but it seems to me that it will be considerably more nutritious).

So well, in fact, that I know Wolf Control .exe will crash soon! Yay. [nblank]

There be Norns.

Too many!

One thing that I notice is the Frog Norns that I introduced have recently reproduced with some Flora Norns. You can find a Flora/Frog Norn somewhere in that mess.

Summer was hard on the Norns, and many got fevers during this time. These fevers killed most of the now-dead Norns.

Whoa! Way to wake up from a nap. [ndoh] We're far into Generation H, but the problem remains that my Wolfling Control .exe crashes on startup due to there being too many Norns. The fix that I used actually did nothing, and the population cap is still horrendously large. I actually had to manually name the entire current population. Luckily for me, I didn't have to extrapolate any names, everyone that died so far had no offspring. So the entire population is named correctly by generation... for now.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Theme Song of the Run <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This song from Super Mario 64 literally sounds like music that would be played in Creatures 2 in the default world. It just jives with the feel of the world so well.

This brings to light a huge problem, however: my registry is still stuck in 40 Norns Cheat mode. I would like to change this, but at this point I don't really know how. If any of you could hopefully shed some light on this, (short of re-installing the game and deleting all the data D: ) it would be immensely helpful. GimmeCat spoke with me about this, and told me what I did wrong. [nalien] GimmeCat is this series' guardian angel, I tell you. The next run after this one will be with a normal-sized population.

Here is a picture of the Norns at this point. They don't mutate in color much, so this generation looks the same as most before it.

I got a little carried away with naming. I'm super bad at coming up with names.

For instance, my favorite Norn of the run is Female. As in, that's her name.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species, and I realised that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment; but you Norns do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Norns are a disease, a cancer on this planet. You are a plague.

Cathy here is a special Norn in this run that I just saw while scrolling around. She is a baby immortal Frog/Flora Norn who has spent the past 9 hours sleeping. She does not age, she does not eat, she just sleeps. Always. She is OLD. A few minutes older than Calvin, an elder Norn close to the end of his lifespan. Click this.

This is Cathy's Perch. I used the Flying Saucer to bring her up here. From here, she will watch her brethren from her sleeping gaze forever. I want to imagine that the other Norns worship her as some sort of religious figure.

One thing to note is that she is always in maximum pain but never shows it on her face. Cathy is labelled in the Observation Kit as "sick".

Currently, the run is having some game corruption, including creatures un-naming themselves and being reborn (Disappearing and re-appearing as infants, weird graphical glitches). I will wholeheartedly blame the 40 Norns cheat.

With that said, I am going to be concluding this run before we have any more glitches in the matrix.

[heart] [heart] [heart]It's time for some sweet lovin'! [heart] [heart] [heart]

This run will be made with the Valentine Norns, a traditional breed of Norn altered to be one of the most exceptional breeders ever. So, more than likely we'll have lots of kisspopping.

This is appropriate, because I reduced the population cap for real this time. [nblank]

I'll post again after the first few Valentine babies are born!

Apparently, I did the cheat fix wrong. I came back to town with 40 Norns walking around, geez. I restarted the run, and I'm just straight going to hatch norns until I can't anymore to see if the population limit has been fixed now.

Edit: It worked! It didn't work! So, the population cap fix DID close the Hatchery. However, it did not do anything to stop them from breeding. They seem to still be able to breed even though we're at the population cap. Is this because of the Live Birth COB?

Edit Edit: Oops, the Wolf Control stopped working. Again. [nblank] I'm getting a bit sick of how bad this COB is. It can't handle a large volume of Norns at all, and it has been the reason more than once why I've concluded runs. The thing is, I can't quite control the population, as the Live Birth COB doesn't seem to care about population limit. The autonamer is just so good for knowing about my Norns. Knowing what generation the Norns are is so imperative to releasing them online, and the autonamer on Wolf Control is the way to do that on a Wolfling Run save naming them myself (Which, due to the nature of Wolfling Runs, is impossible). The autonamer names Norns by generation, with A names being generation 1, B names being generation 2, et cetera. Wolf Control is such a pain, and almost not worth the trouble I go through to keep it around.

Edit Edit Edit: Oh boy! [nblank] The Valentine Norns World now crashes on startup, meaning I will have to restart the run again. 3rd times the charm...? [nsad]

Edit Edit Edit Edit: I looked through every single Creatures 2 COB on CreatureCaves looking for an autonamer. There isn't one. However, an application named "Wolfling Monitor" was given to me by GimmeCat that has the ability to export Norns over a certain population, making the runs viable again. That is, if it worked. It does not, even with the compatibility patch and running it as an administrator. I'll ask GimmeCat about it when I get the chance.

Okay! So, to control the population, I'm going to not use the Live Birth COB. Instead, I am going to use the "always resume eggs" function of the Wolf Control application. Hopefully this solves the issue with overpopulation, as the Live Birth COB was the primary reason population got so out of hand.

I hatched some new Norns, restarted the run, and I'm doing it this time without the 40 Norns Cheat/Live Birth. A reinstallation and purge of the old game files guarantees that I've actually disabled the cheat. I also got some multicolored Valentine Norns for some variety. See you guys soon!

Surprisingly, these Norns are not doing bad. Just pouty because they never sleep. In fact, they're doing better than the Nova Subterra Norns did. I smell a conspiracy. [nquestion]

Perhaps the illuminati are behind the Nova Subterra conspiracy... [nscared][noddeye]

Something else I should mention is this crappy looking COB, titled force field. It is significantly better than the base game's Energy Gate, and silent too. The art is incredibly bad, but the functionality is entirely better, and worth the immersion-breaking art. At the very least, I've added these force fields to every Energy Gate location in addition to the Energy Gate for added protection.

TheDrunkenNorn's tip of the month: DON'T F*** with your registry. Ever. It doesn't matter if you want to increase your population, it's just a bad idea. I had to reinstall the game to undo the damage I did, despite having done everything correctly and to the letter.
