Welcome again Creatures fans, to another Wolfling Run!

This time, I will be showcasing my own breed, the Ivrogne Canny Norns. They are a variant of Akamai Canny Norn with an increased survival rate and better breeding. However, there is the small problem that I have not yet tested them. Thus, I have no idea if they are actually good or not. So this will be as much a normal Wolfling Run where I critique a breed as well as a test of the effectiveness of the breed itself.

I will be using five different sprite types for this run (Instead of the normal Creatures sprites).

Now, that's quite the variance of sprites. You may be asking yourself "Hey TDN, why don't you do this for most Wolfling Runs? You DO complain often that Norns typically look the same!" And to that, I would answer, "Most breeds don't ship the .gen file with the download, for some insane reason. Some do, and to those I applaud them greatly, but most do not. You use the .gen file to change a Creature's appearance, and it is much easier to do when you actually have said .gen file. As a novice who is incredibly new to the game, I don't know many other ways to get the .gen files from particular Creatures breeds."

I will be making a male and a female of every breed sprite shown. Once that is complete, I will hatch them into the new world and update you guys on how it goes!

P.S. I am 100% confident in the superstitious belief that having a sprite type named "Wolfling Norn" will improve the chances of this run. They're practically made for it! Really cute idea for a sprite base.

Now, before we move on, I have a promise I must keep.

Back on Page 5, I said that I would leave a timeline of the various important features that have been added to the runs (Wolfling Runs, Wallpapers, et cetera) on every page number divisible by 5. It is time to keep my word:

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Timeline <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(TIP: If you find the Timeline hard to read, try left-clicking on it to zoom. If that doesn't work, try using the CTRL + MOUSESCROLL command to zoom in your browser screen. You can use the same command to zoom your screen back out when you are finished. For Macs or other operating systems that do not include the CTRL button, simply use your browser's inbuilt zoom function in the settings.)

Frankly, it is quite awesome how far this series has come in less than half a year. I'm so glad this has gotten the support it has. Thank you all for reading!

I've also added every "Theme Song of the Run" submission to the Timeline, something I simply forgot to do last time.

Thank you all for your support, and I sincerely hope you all continue reading. [nwink]

Quick update: I've changed the first post of the series to include a neat little logo. Nothing much, but it gets the job done. I wasn't very happy with the "Bannerless" introduction to the series. I've also updated some of the pages with corrections to very minor errors.

I'm so glad you're using such a fun mix of sprites! Those are some of my favorite Norns (unfortunately, my favorite vanilla Norns are Emeralds, but there aren't many fun sprite edits of those)

I hope the El Dorado parts survive a few generations - they tended to get eliminated pretty quickly in my runs.

First presumption is they'll breed roughly 875 times better on their own than Nova Subterra.

Second presumption, unless we messed up there should be a lot of happy faces there.

For this run, I've decided against naming each norn based on alphabet. I will name them based on what I think their name should be. Instead, I will put a counter at the end of their name to signify the generation. I feel it may be more professional that way.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Here are all the starting Norns (individual pictures!!), categorized by number and by unique names, some of which even have last names.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
And here is a group of them socializing together.
I get much more involved in my Wolfling Runs when I feel that the Norns have personality. They each have their own unique appearance (sometimes differing between gender) and their own unique names, now separated from the boring, droll "A" names used to traditionally categorize Generations. It's amazing what such a small difference can do to improve the immersion.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Map <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Nothing unusual; just a normal ol' map with plentiful food. I did teach the Norns language so that I could understand them (Something more alike a Feral Run, the difference being I should NEVER interfere in their lives once I have everything set up).

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Roll Call
0 Natural Born Norns.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Lily and Starfire making friends. They like giving each other praise.

Like most of my Wolfling Runs, the Norns have decided to gravitate around the left side of the Island of Love's volcano. The right side is completely empty.
Most of the Norns are now Children. One thing I notice is that the El Dorado Norns are shorter than the rest of the Norns, giving them a certain unique quality. It's just another thing that sets the Norns apart from each other.

The Ivrogne Canny Norns seem to be a bit fussy about sleeping, which is making me a bit nervous. They're all tired, but they don't seem to want to sleep until a good two minutes after they feel tired. They DO sleep, but they like to wait a good while. Now that I think about it, real children do that too. Maybe that is intended?

Child Wolfling Norns are really beautiful. They look like literal Wolfnorns, like they could just eat a Grendel no problem.

Here are some of the Norns as children.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Theme Song of the Run <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

You are probably thinking something along the lines of "What?! Since when are we doing Theme Song of the Run again?!", and the answer to that question would be now. Don't question me! [nsurprised] This track is a jazzy song intended for listening in a dimly-lit tavern, but it fits the Ivrogne Norns, as they are my (The DRUNKEN Norn's) signature breed. Even their namesake translates to drunken; so this song applies. Makes me think that the Norns are up to no good, though.

Also, I'm thinking of releasing this pack of eggs on CreaturesCaves. I know that when I first started playing Creatures 2, I wanted more variance in my Norns, but I couldn't ever achieve it. I feel that it's sort of my duty to help other users make their Norns beautiful too.

Like god d*** these are some pretty Norns. I especially like the Mimickry Norns and the El Dorado Norns. Clearly, a lot of time and effort was put into making these Norns have personality.

[ngrin][ngrin][ngrin]Mimickry Norns come with diaperrrrrsssssss.[ngrin][ngrin][ngrin]

I should definitely try the Flora Norns at some point...

Also, these Norns know better than to attack Venterra territory 8)

The wolfling norn wanting to stop weather already is a tad worrying, though...

LOL!

Kannova Venterra comin' straight from the underground... a young Norn got it bad cuz' he bonks.

Stop weather and pull weather seem to be actions pretty much EVERY Norn want to take, though. Is that a problem?

They don't seem to want to sleep when they're tired. They just keep on going. Can you go to sleep please...

Prismaax is whining about wanting sex despite the fact that he is a Child and is thus infertile at this point in his life. I mean, I know that when I was 6 I watched some porn, but he's complaining about being Norny. I find this a little odd.

Venithil may be distraught to learn that the Ivrogne Norns have holed up into two seperate groups; east and west. This marked the beginning of the era called the Cold War.

Seriously though... they're expanding their territory. These Ivrogne Norns don't mess around!

Here's a group of the cute children. Instead of spam slapping, they spam kissing. These Norns are addicted to giving affection.

Prismaax is a lazy, Garfield-esque Norn that sits around all the time, doing very little social interaction. He would rather eat. He's also Norny alot; but so far he's the only Norn I've seen with a personality of his own. Laziness. 10/10.

Prismaax likely activated the horn you see in the picture. It releases pheromones into the air when activated, prompting every creature in the vicinity to feel friendly no matter what other factors are involved, including young age.

Look at how miserable and scared the desert island Norns look. They know what is coming.

Huh.

Thank you for the insight Venithil. I'd have never figured that out.

It begins.

Oh, and Serranfang is pregnant. If I didn't mention already, there are 5 males and 5 females distributed equally by gender. Serranfang is the first to potentially bare offspring!

Suddenly, Rainbow is pregnant too!

Funfact: Every Norn calls themselves "Starfire". When you mouse over any of them, it is labelled "Starfire". Of course in reality they have names, but they all bibble to each other as one unanimous name. Re-Registering their births fixed it, though. No big deal.

Meet the first baby, Dead Idiot. [nskull] Why is he called that? Click on the picture. The baby came into this life ready to die. The union was with a Dewa Norn and a Wolfling Norn, btw. However, because they are the same genome, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to breed...

The second baby, Rosethorn, was not so unlucky. He was named Rosethorn because he is the union of a Flora Norn and a Wolfling Norn. The Rose is more Flora-like, and I figure that Thorn is a badass enough half to a name to merit the little guy being a Wolfling Cub.

The third baby, Celestian, is a Dewa/Mimickry Norn. The name seemed like a decent mix of the ideas of space and vibrant color, in my opinion.

Every baby born so far has been male.

The parents of Celestian love nurturing him and kissing him. and did so when he was born. The parents of Rosethorn slapped him 4 times and promptly abandoned him to go play with the Dog Toy when he was born.

Despite that these Norns are not that great at sleeping very often, they are still in general much happier than Akamai Canny Norns. I'm glad.

The first female Norn is named Perfection. She is named that because she is a pure-bred Mimickry Norn. She is not interbred with any of the other Creature types. This is a bit exciting!

One thing we did right: These Norns breed about as fast as fire spreads.

Meet La Flor, the breed of an El Dorado and Flora Norn. It's named after the Spanish word for "flower", an appropriate name. This Norn likes playing with badbugs.

Finally, meet Perfecto. She's a purebred El Dorado Norn, from the union of Vincewind and Tiona. Vincewind El Gustavo really gets around... his seed will probably be in this Ivrogne Norn civilization for years to come.

Here are three of the babies socializing. [nblush]

Serranfang tried to have another baby, but died in childbirth. Oh. [nsad]

Perfecto is crowded alot. She is most happy when she is sitting by herself, enjoying the scenery.

Vincewind El Gustavo is ready to get down with more ladies now that he's all grown up! I really like how evenly dispersed the population is. There are babies with parts from every race of Norn present. The only problem is, I foresee a majority of El Dorado Norns in the future due to this very Norny Norn.

Even in improved Norn breeds some genes have been left prone to mutation. Sometimes, those mutations are beneficial, sometimes, they result in stillbirth or similar issues.

I once had a Norn (it was the basic GOG Creatures Albian Years 256 genome, though) who did not feel hunger until he became adolescent, for example (of course, he still NEEDED to eat)... A lot of reason could've lead to that Norn being born unconscious and dying.

I like the Flora / El Dorado crosses!

From : The more you know! series...

Today I discovered that the original Flora Norns have the half-life of sex drive chemical set to 130.

To put things in perspective : A completely Norny Flora Norn without a means to relieve their sex drive would take as long as generic Grendel lives, and half as long as a regular 256 Norn lives, so roughly 2 hours 40 minutes, to go from max 'friendliness' back to zero if no more sex drive chemical entered their system. For a run off the mill Norn this takes 2.5 minutes.

Guess this explains why they breed so well ^.^

"I was Norny before you were alive, boy; and I'll be Norny long after you pass away."

They aren't Flora Norns though. The only thing they share with the Flora Norn genome is the sprites. In every other way, they are Ivrogne Canny Norns.

Here are most of the current-generation Norns. Most of the Norns (But not all of them) from Generation 1 are dead, and Generation 2 (All those babies mentioned earlier) is now having a bunch of babies of its own. We're well into Generation 3, and as you can see, there are some beautiful crossbreeds of Norns.

At this point, I'm unsure of whether or not these Norns are superior to Akamai Canny Norns. I will need to observe them more.

As you can see, most of the population is sad and beautiful. They don't look any happier than Akamai Canny Norns.

Flora Norns look very extravagant and important when they're older. They look like the village elders or something.

One thing that may attribute to their rapid success is the fact that they play with the love horn ALOT. Like every 5 seconds one of the Norns will doot it.

Wolfling Norns are SCARY! This guy looks like he could kill and eat the hand no problem, then have some Grendel and Ettin stew for lunch...

♦ Irrelevant to current run ♦

Ugh. I recently bought Fallout 4 as a long-time fan of the series, only to be metaphorically pooped on.

For those of you who are unaware, the Fallout franchise is about freedom of choice. You are whoever you want to be; it is the epitome of a roleplaying game.

With that said, this also allows you to be evil. Every Fallout game without question allows you to be evil.

Fallout 1 and 2: Don't like the children? Why not just slaughter everyone?! Near infinite abilities to be a bad guy.

Fallout 3: While certainly more linear, this game allows you to nuke an entire city and join a slaver gang. It also allows you to destroy the Brotherhood of Steel. An amazing example of choice in a very linear main story. I spent most of my time hanging out with my slaver brothers.

Fallout New Vegas: A non-linear story and almost no immortal NPCs... also, every quest is tailored to choice. You can join a slaver gang, or even take over the continent for yourself. Not a lot of evil companions, but New Vegas shines in the ample amount of choices. You will never be bored being a bad guy here.

Fallout 4: You are a good guy. There is no other choice. Help the Minutemen, because you are a good guy. Find your son, because you are a good guy. Fallout 4 likes to make it very apparent to you that you no longer have choice, and that the franchise is no longer a "roleplaying game" franchise. You do as your Bethesda masters tell you; there is no deviation from the goodie-two shoes path.

My apologies for the rant, but Fallout 4 turned out to be a total waste of money. And I played through the entire game. The only times I remember being evil were in unscripted out-of-cutscene instances where I decided to shoot folks in the head and take their stuff. It's a major disappointment what the Triple AAA industry is doing to games.

tl;dr: Fallout 4 was ruined for me by the inability to be evil for the first time in the franchise of games. I have to help kittens out of trees and give to charity because the game says I have to.

(Oh, this isn't relevant to Creatures at all? Elementary, my dear Watson, it is indeed! Watch the trailer for Creatures 4, and try to tell me that it doesn't seem at all dumbed down for a casual audience. This is happening all over the place, and I fear that the simplicity trend may be affecting our gaming future).

Oh, I know quite well these only share the Flora Norn appearance, but as I've been testing actual Flora Norns I thought this would be a good little piece of a curiosity to bring up.

And yes, a lot of franchises seem to be shifting in a way that, regrettably, simplifies them or dumbs them down.

I'm going to be checking back in on the Wolfling Run. I'll tell you guys about what it looks like, though I assume it looks about like that warzone in the Vin Diesel movie intro I linked.

Btw Babylon A.D. was terrible. Imagine if someone who was a genius Sci-Fi writer wrote the first half of your amazing movie, then quit halfway through requiring all your other brain-dead writers to pick up the pace. Meanwhile, your editor is high, and doesn't know where he is, much less where the characters in the movie are in any given scene.

To distract you from my inherent lack of creativity, here's a cute child Norn!

They're all unnamed, by the way. Some time during one of my times leaving it on, two generations passed. So, as it is, they're all going to have to name themselves (Which they can do, by the way! I'll show you an example).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Here is an example of a Norn's personal name. They give very simple names. These names are recycled constantly, so you may have 4 or 5 "Em" Norns.

Norns in small to big societies are going to try naming themselves something. It's usually simple bibble like em or eem if they never focus on one another while hearing other creatures speak, but recently on a blog I've read a Norn named himself Eat...

In the meantime, Ivrogne Norns were the only Akamai Canny variant that consistently produced healthy non-buggy offspring with Kannova Venterra 2.0 with both brain types found amongst the offspring (Kannova and A.Canny). Coincidence?

Also, I mentioned it before but while El Dorado / Flora model crosses were pretty, apparently this one has some Dewa thrown in, too?

I've run into some Norns who name themselves their given name twice (C6C6). No idea how that happens.

As a personal request, can you release the "shiny Norn pack" that you used in this Wolfling run? I've been trying to do a run with them using vanilla sprites and I, too, have gotten so supremely tired of seeing so much brown. (The Pixies have taken over. send help.)

Starting over, they seem to be doing really well. The only thing keeping the population from spiraling rapidly out of control is the population cap. Live Birth is working as intended, which means that my tinkering with the registry to get the 40 Norns Cheat to work did some permanent damage, apparently. Subsequently, it was not the Live Birth COB's fault, as it works as intended. The population cap since my re-installation of the game has maintained a consistent 16-20 this whole time.

I watched Star Trek: Beyond in theaters while the run was going, and it made me think how Creatures 3 could have so much potential. Imagine instead of bio-spheres, you actually went to different planets with vastly different landscapes (Unless that is how it already works? I've always figured the different metarooms were on the ship itself).

Here is another Phantom Brave track, this one encompassing a sweeter feeling in the Creatures games. With this, I can imagine generations of Creatures living in harmony, without war and without plague (Seriously, base genome Norns get sick all of the time. Most of the time, it is fatal too. I am glad that I'm running a base genome for once, to see more what was intended. What was intended is still super hardcore, though, to the point that if I was actively involved in their lives, I would be miserable from how difficult the game is).

The color variance in this group is spectacular for a minimal color genome. Lots of the base starting Norn colors have survived into the current generation (Generation J)

I agree.

Alright guys! I got off my butt and did something I said I would do AGES ago: made a video of my playthrough! I know it isn't as glamorous as a live streaming, but with the state of CC at the moment, I'm not sure it matters. Maybe some of the lurkers will eventually see this, as opposed to no one seeing the twitch stream. I hope you guys enjoy, it's 20 minutes of solid, uninterrupted gameplay, with no commentary. If you want commentary, please let me know. At the moment, it's just my Norns, in the flesh. Well, in the pixels.

Happy late new year, CreaturesCaves. I feel like post-television series season ending depression is hitting me hard with the end of Bojack Horseman, season 3. Geez. Like the aptly named in-show drug, I need me some more Bojack.

In terms of Creatures 2, I plan to post more often. Creatures 2 is a bit rough, honestly, because it has a certain formula that makes it boring after awhile. If anyone could suggest a way to make the game more fun while making it still a 'Wolfling-Run' compatible thing, I'd really appreciate it. So, here's to the hopeful feedback I probably won't get because CreaturesCaves is dead! Woo.

Sorry about the bad video quality!

...P.S.:

@Wildminion What? You agree with which part of that entire forum post that you literally copy/pasted as a quote?

Hey there! Sorry for being an irresponsible fan and staying quiet. I watched the video though! So many tired buddies.

This would be more complex than just filming gameplay, but it would be nice to have some subtitles or closed captions to comment on certain Norns! Sort of like your posts on here, just in a video we can stream. I think that would be neat! Looking forward to more.

revisions of the creatures genomes sometimes myself.

Cannys and novas are fairly obviously different from the official genomes, but they seem more or less the same as each other to me.

Oh, if you have problems with norns picking up their eggs you might want a live birth cob
Honestly they shouldn't have been able to pick up their eggs to begin with but here we are.

Live Birth COB has been something of a thing in these runs for a while now. I haven't mentioned them in awhile though (At least not on this page).

@MissMysterics

How does everyone keep figuring out my secret identity? [ndoh] Honestly, anyone plays the Elder Scrolls, but what are the odds of one of those same community members playing Creatures? Is it my name? It's very similar to my modding name...

Ah! I see!

I remember someone else before the YouTube account noticed I was a Mudcrab too.

There's like 10 pages of this crap, I could understand you not exactly wanting to read every single word! :D

Regardless, because the last update was 5 months ago, I'm going to go ahead and call it quits on the current Wolfling run (And hey; I got a pretty cool video for you guys at least).

For the next wolfling run, I'd like to see what breeds you guys would like me to use. Submit any you think would be interesting, I'll go in blind as a bat!
