As of 1/21/2016 Fishing Cactus has officially stated that production on Creatures Online has come to a halt. |

Sadly this has been known for a while. May I ask, could you post the statement so we can read it? |

Yeah, sorry. I tried to post a link but the forums ate it, so here is the url. :/ |

Well that solves the mystery of why the site/forums were abandoned in such a sorry state. Makes a little more sense now. |

It's pretty sad, but at least they've finally given us an actual formal statement regardin the game. To be quite honest, I feel pretty bad for Fishing Cactus because the amount of abuse they have gotten from "fans" over on their Creatures Online Facebook page is appalling. |

I feel sorry for Fishing Cactus too. I can't help but think they've been given a raw deal with this situation. This is only my opinion, but to me it feels like Bigben shot them in the foot and let them take the flack, in a way. I just remember how obliging and friendly the whole team were when development started, and we had regular updates, competitions and live Q&A sessions, etc. It's sad.
It must have been difficult for them. After reading their statement, I get the impression that they really wanted to let us know what was happening a lot earlier, and that they wanted a say on the future of Creatures Online but weren't able to do a thing about it. |

This is a real kick in the teeth considering how much of it was done already. Would it have really been such a loss to let them release the Alpha?

Thanks for letting us know.
Don't forget that Creatures Online wasn't a download - it required a server to be running at Fishing Cactus' end.
Is there anyone with the power to make a sticky on the Creatures Online News Forum?

Going by what they mention in the blog; nobody at Fishing Cactus has official access to the forums and website anymore. |

I still have my forum privileges... To be completely honest though, my heart wasn't in the ambassador role after a while and I think if I was to show my face there again, to bring bad news no less, I could be lynched. |

It's more to redirect anyone who gets lost in the spam there to the official statement than anything else. I can log in there, but it boots me out when I try to post.

Can't get lynched with a locked topic. |

Well, I just posted a test topic and found that I can lock, unlock, move, split and delete topics, but I can't sticky them. In fact, I can't see any stickied topics on those forums. We still have blogs and Facebook pages at our disposal though, use those instead? |

I'll be honest; I don't really see the point to someone making a topic there? The forum's been bogged down with trash long enough that most people would avoid it entirely (understandably so). A better avenue would be their Facebook pages I would think. |

As we've recently seen, Creatures fans are still going to the forum and getting lost in the spambots. A topic with a link to the official announcement would be a kindness to everyone who visits there hoping for news - albeit a temporary kindness.

"As the publisher and legal owner of the IP"
I hope they mean "creatures online" IP, not creatures... anyway, the worst worries were confirmed, they had to hand over the game to BB, and they completely lost any control of it. The only chance the game has is for BB to hand it over to a different team.
It's really a shame, and I do think the guys at FC were doing a great job of creating a hybrid creatures/mobile game, and engaging with the community. This failure is going to have left them pretty badly off financially too, so I wish them luck. |

I'm inclined to say that due to the staggering amount of spam, it might be easier to stick to spreading word via blogs/Facebook, to be honest.

It's such a shame that they had to halt the project. Given how in the dark we were there for a while though, I guess we shouldn't be too surprised.
Fishing Cactus clearly did put a lot of love into the game during its development despite all the delays and despite the fact that the game was going in a direction that a lot of people clearly weren't too thrilled about (the whole free-to-play model, always being online, etc). I hope it can see the light of day someday, especially seeing its so far in development and so many resources have already been put into it as it is.
