So, as I've been sharing on CreaturesCaves.com recently (May 2017), I (Lurhstaap) have begun observing something that should be impossible. Specifically, hallucinations in CFF Norns that are not currently on chemical 130. Most such individuals had never even been exposed to the chemical. But it turns out that exposing them to 130 makes the no-130 hallucinosis much more dramatic. At least, if anything can be judged by the Norn in this file.

Now, I have no idea if she'll behave the same way on your machine as she did on mine. Finding that out is a major reason I'm uploading her at all. But this is what I observed of her in my game. She's a tester from the 3.0 Dragons, otherwise normal. She was exposed to 130 and experienced it normally. At least half an hour after her last dose had totally worn out of her system, however, she began experiencing hallucinations again (I have an agent that can detect it down to .001, so it couldn't have been present in any meaningful quantity).

When Intyalle and I have observed non-intoxicated Norns hallucinating, it has almost always been a fleeting thing, easy to miss if you aren't making a point of watching the CRC and HB. (I use those two agents together all the time specifically to detect hallucinosis, though, and I do a lot of work with this chemical, including comparing 130-exposed populations to totally sober ones. That's why I can say with confidence that I've NEVER seen this happen before now in sober Norns. I have not been a casual observer.) And it doesn't happen all that often. Often enough to notice and be sure it's occurring at all, but very rarely compared to the psychedelic wonderland a Norn that's actually on 130 experiences. It's almost like a flashback, except that the sober Norns have never used 130 to begin with, so it's not a flashback.

Allora, though, seems to be an example of bona fide 130 flashbacks - another phenomenon I have never before witnessed. Either that or, like I said above, having used 130 made her much more vulnerable to the no-130 hallucinosis. I'm honestly not sure.

Either way, Allora was tripping BALLS while 100% cold sober. She wasn't just hallucinating, she was doing so at a rate almost as high as an intoxicated norn would, and also exhibiting extremely unusual behavior even for a 130'd Norn. Most 130 Norns enjoy the experience, and even fearful reactions are usually limited to specific objects, like being reluctant to focus on or interact with critters, for example. But Allora was in full panic mode for no apparent reason. She was off to one side so no one had been hitting her (and they get enraged rather than afraid from hits anyway) and no Grendels were present (but again, dragons get angry, not afraid, at grendels, anyway.) She was running back and forth, alternately hallucinating and focusing on real things, yelling about how afraid she was. I've literally never seen a Norn behave like that except for drowning Norns in C2.

I brought her back to company and the garden hoping the warmth and fellow Norns would soothe her. Instead she began to frantically devour food-class items as if she thought she were starving - fascinatingly, she alternated between eating actual food, and trying to eat nonreal food-illusions, as illustrated by the CRC and HB. Her attention went from hallucinosis to reality at a rapid pace, almost as fast as a norn actually on 130. But, again, SHE WAS COLD SOBER. There was NO 130 in her system. By then I had removed the agent providing 130 from the world so there's zero possibility of her getting another dose. My monitoring agent would have shown that, anyway.

Eventually, she did calm down and seem more or less normal, but due to unrelated genetic issues I exported the lot of testers to make room for a new batch a while later. So since she's preserved now, I decided to share her and see if she does anything weird in anyone else's worlds.

To watch for hallucinosis in Allora, here's what to do. If you don't already have both the CRC and the HealthBar, both can be downloaded on CreaturesCaves.com. Activate both agents and make Allora the selected Norn. Most of the time, the two agents should display identical content. For example, if she looks at a real critter, both agents should show 'look critter'. If you notice the two agents showing different information, Allora is hallucinating in that moment. There are two classic types of hallucinations that creatures can experience. Please let me know if you notice any of these, what their content was, and, especially, if you think you notice a different type of hallucination!

An ILLUSION is when the Norn sees a thing that isn't really there and attempts to interact with it normally, as if it were real. When this happens, the two agents will disagree. One will show what the Norn thinks is happening, while the other shows the truth. For example, say Allora hallucinates an unreal Grendel and tries to hit it. One agent will show 'hit grendel', but the other will show 'hit self'. 'Self' is its default display for when no data is provided. This means the thing she's trying to hit isn't really there, even though her brain thinks it is. This is a simple visual hallucination.

A PHANTOM is rarer and weirder. It may happen at the same time as an illusion, or may occur with a real object as the focus. I'm less certain of how to interpret this, but when it happens, the two agents disagree as such. Say there is a real piece of food nearby and the Norn wants to eat it. While standing still, obviously not actually eating the food, one agent will show '(nothing) food' while the other shows 'eat food'. If the food were an illusion, the second agent will instead show 'eat self'. Again, I'm not 100% sure on this, but my best interpretation of this data is that the Norn is hallucinating taking an action that isn't actually being taken. In short, it's a bodily or kinetic hallucination - the Norn feels as if they are moving or doing something they aren't really doing.

Allora has exhibited both illusions and phantoms.

Again, by the time I exported her, she had calmed down, so don't expect her to be doing nutty things on the moment of import. But keep an eye on her. She may well experience another episode. If she does, PLEASE contact me and let me know! I'm easiest to find on CreaturesCaves.com as Lurhstaap, but you can also email me if I don't respond there.

Remember, she's a tester from an incomplete genome. Don't allow her to mate or she'll make sliders and other horrible things. And you'll probably have to make a point of making sure she eats enough - there are flaws in her metabolism. She is a predator and needs critters, bugs, and/or pests for complete nutrition, though she can obtain incomplete nutrition from food-class edibles. She will probably browse on fruits and seeds, but she only gets a tiny tiny tiny bit of nutrients from those, so make sure she eats sufficient prey and critters. If you have Flopsy's flying agent, make sure you're NOT using it, as I've found my dragons don't function well with it. They do great with Grendel_Man's flying and swimming agents, though, so if you have those, feel free to use them.

Thanks very much for downloading Allora and reading through all this. Don't forget to let me know what you observe! ('Nothing interesting' is a valid report, BTW - it tells me something equally important if nothing happens on anyone else's machines.)
